Is Jeremy Lin For Real?

Is Jeremy Lin for real? Actually, let's rephrase that. Who the heck is Jeremy Lin? Just one week ago, most people didn't know who Lin was -- at least nobody that wasn't in his immediate family and circle of friends. Fast forward a few days and now Mr. Lin is the talk of the basketball world. Lin was just a backup guard on the New York Knicks roster and was previously cut by the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors.

Lin originally played at Harvard, the ivy league, known more for its academics than athletics. After being undrafted, he bounced around in the NBA developmental league and was long forgotten on the Knicks bench -- until last weekend. The Knicks were desperate for a spark at the guard position with Toney Douglas struggling and got just that when Lin, who scored 25 points, five rebounds, and seven assists, led the team to victory over the New Jersey Nets.

At press time, the Knicks are now riding a three-game winning streak, with Lin scoring over 20 points per game during that stretch. Now the Knicks and Lin can make a true statement on Friday night, when they take on the Los Angeles Lakers at home, broadcast at 8pm/ET on ESPN. Lin is being called the Tim Tebow of the NBA. Will this feel-good story last for Knicks fans? Or is Jeremy Lin a flash in the pan?

I hope so. He sure seems like a very down to earth humble person. Something that pro sports has been needing for a long time.

He's put on a great, inspiring performance in his past few games, but I think he's just a 4-5 game wonder. The hype will be over in a week or two.

Meant to click "yes".....only at least to make Stottlemyre (?) and Anthony look bad for all the high income they make. Fat, stupid, and lazy, overpaid; why hustle when you've got all that guaranteed money coming in. This guy Lin is hungry and they are the best type of athletes. Or even workers. Need to show what they got to get to where others are.
Yea, Lin is good, for awhile at least. The Knicks at interesting at least now. Better than these other lard asses can draw.

he might be, a little early, but he might be. he is mature because of the years he spent in college. the nba needs to stop raiding college basketball. let these kids stay at least three years. once they do get there they will be more mature and more well rounded in the game
    and life.

He's the real deal...he was just days away from being cut according to media reports. He's made the most of an opportunity and the Knicks are back in the hunt once again. He did it again last night as well. A good game along with making a free throw that won the game. Kudos to Lin.

I sure hope he's the real deal! It's so nice to see a sports story like his, as opposed to the usual criminal beat stories that seem to follow many athletes. Just a hard working guy who waited for and finally got his chance, and is making the most of it!

There been a bunch of Asian in the NBA. Raymond Townsend (half-Filipino), Rex Walters (Half Japanese), Wang Zhi Zhi (Chinese), Mengke Bateer (Mongolian-Chinese-member of 2003 Champion Spurs), Yuta Tabuse (Japaese), Ha Seung Jin (Korean), Hamed Haddadi of the Grizzles, Sun Yue (Lakers 09), Yi Jianlian (Dallas), even the Head coach of the Heat is part Filipino.

A couple of years ago, I watched him in the NBA summer league (playing with Dallas at that time), and he actually outplayed the #1 overall pick of that year, John Wall. Yes, this kid can play.

He's playing the roll of Steve Nash for coach Mike, D. He is extremely efficient, and a very accurate shooter. Someone should loose there job for passing him up. Sadly, this happens more often than not, only stories like these don't make for a probable ending.

Jeremy Lin is the real deal, the numbers don't lie. He showed what he can do last night against defensive team, the Lakers, and it surpasses even Kobe's records. Lin is doing what Steve Nash does - makes his teammates better. The Knicks starting line right now looks pretty bad on paper but he's managed to make everyone much better than average (and of course himself, too). If they continue to play this way, as a WHOLE team, I think the Knicks could be unstoppable.

Melo is a shoot first, ask question later kind of player. Once Melo and Stat comes back, we should expect Lin to take on a passive role. We know how dangerous Jeremy Lin is but he's a humble kind of player and he don't mind if he can make his teammates better, which is why everyone likes him so much. The Knicks are looking rather dangerous ATM!

The greatest thing to happen to the NBA since Michael Jordan!

It's way too early to put Jeremy Lin in the same company as Steve Nash or John Stockton, but Lin is a fundamentally sound ballplayer. What he did last night at MSG wasn't a fluke. His scoring will come back down to earth when Melo and Amare rejoin the team, but the Knicks prayers for a NBA-caliber point guard have been answered. .
