Is Jennifer Lawrence Considered Obese in Hollywood?

It’s a story more outrageous than a bunch of futuristic teens being forced to pick each other off one-by-one for sport. Sexy “Hunger Games” star Jennifer Lawrence talked to Elle magazine for its December issue and boldly stated, “In Hollywood, I’m obese. I’m considered a fat actress. I’m Val Kilmer in that one picture on the beach.”

Of course, anyone who saw the 22-year-old actress in her skin tight, gold Prabel Gurung "Hunger Games" premiere dress knows that the comparison is far from true. But her point is well taken. In Tinseltown, where eating disorders are abound and protruding collarbones are coveted accessories, a healthy starlet is considered a plus size girl. But the Academy Award-nominee refuses to let the pressure to be waifish get to her.

In the same article, she revealed that she won’t succumb to the unhealthy standard set by some. Instead she admitted that she’d rather be eating Cheetos and watching beach volleyball with her beau. And she hopes that her fans embrace her attitude. Lawrence recounted that she was very conscious of her body image during training for her career-changing role in “Hunger Games.” She was concerned that if she got too skinny, young girls might look at her character Katniss Everdeen and decide to “skip dinner.” Still, it’s hard to believe that the actress is fat by anyone’s standards. Do you think Jennifer Lawrence is considered obese in Hollywood?

Sadly, I think there are a lot of crazed wack jobs in Hollywood that think she is "fat".
I think she looks pretty damned good.

I wouldn't say she's considered obese by Hollywood standards, but I would agree that she would be "considered a fat actress" despite not being fat at all. I'm really happy that she doesn't want to succumb to the ultra thin trend and is instead opting to be healthy.

Hollyweird is full of sickos; their ultra-thin craze is just one of the manifestations that showcase the collective mental illness that infects their entire community. Most of “Kalifornia” should really just fall off the Continental US and sink into the Pacific.

Many people in the business do have great appeal with a little extra body mass. Demi Moore, hope the spelling is correct, is one example, very appealing during her years in the movie business with her figure.

This was a hard question to answer as they both resulted in the same thing: Jennifer is 'Bigger' (I say that in quotation marks as she is NOT fat just bigger than the ultra thin people on the TV) than most celebrities.

"no" is saying "No she is not OBESE in HOLLYWOODS eyes"
"Yes" is saying "Yes, Hollywood think Jennifer Lawrence is obese"

I personally think that Hollywood or Celebrities believe Jennifer is FAT but not OBESE. Jennifer is beautiful, and more girls need to follow in her footsteps..

In interviews Jen jokes about being fat and eating too much, she doesn't care what people think of her and I love that about her.

I think there's something much worse than the 'body image' pressure our celebrity-ruled culture puts on girls and young women -- the pressure to present yourself as a victim. As Don Henley wrote, I'd like to find your inner child and kick his little ass. Get over it

She was never told that she was a "fat actress" by anybody in "Hollywood". She is also on the top of the list for recommended actress for many upcoming films. Even the people in Hollywood who she claims considers her fat are perplexed as to why she would say such a thing. The problem isn't from Hollywood, it comes from all these trashy magazines and other trolls who as soon as someone gains a pound they point it out and insult them to make a big deal out of nothing.

If a Hollywood movie calls for a fat person, Hollywood will find a fat person or make one fat. If Hollywood needs a skinny actor they will starve the person. Fred Astaire danced his way to skinny.

When Mike & Molly first came on TV, there were a lot of complaints against the show because " people didn't want to see fat people making love". I am glad the show is still on. It is good for everyone to see you can find love no matter what your body size is. I really need to lose about 80 lbs, easier said than done. But would help with my arthritis.

Oprah, Kat Dennings, Scarlett Johanson, Spencer Breslin, Kirsti Ally, Kathy Bates, and Jenifer Hudson are all bigger than her. They've all been in Hollywood a long time and I haven't heard too much about them being called fat by fellow actors/actresses. Yes Supermodels are expected to be sticks, but actors/actresses, and singers are held to a little different standard. They have to be sexy or cute or something else we can relate to without much hesitation.

Both actually. She's far from fat. Hell, she's even the ideal weight for a girl her height, but there's no doubting that Hollywood loves the ultra thin actreses especially those who are just starting out.

No one except her has actual said she is obese. At 5'9" and 137lbs she is "normal weight" as per BMI index. She is just fishing for attention given the current obsession with bullying and body image.
