I love a song that has a good beat, and meaningful lyrics don't hurt either. I dedicate songs to people and I like to create playlists of songs that I can relate to, so lyrics are as important as a good beat that will make you want to keep listening.

good lyrics that flow but have a bad beat makes the words sound bad and a good beat with words that dont flow with it make the beat sound choppy and un even....its wen both match in a good rhythm and flow together is wen a good song happens

I don't know the words to most of my current faves, I just like the beat. If you see a lady in a car with her head a-wobblin, that's probably me keeping the beat.

The tune and the beat makes me listen AND the words. However if a song has a good tune and beat then i will like it. Example: Gypsy Kings has beautiful music but i cannot understand everything they are singing.

Both but not equally..usually i first decide whether or not I like the beat and then decide whether or not I like the lyrics..but I'll still listen to a song even if I don't like the beat if the lyrics are jst THAT good

It's always been the music. I don't even hear the words, and oh yes, rap is CRAP!

I do know all the words to Pink Floyd's "One of These Days", "One of These Days, I'm Going To Chop You Into Little Bitty Pieces"

pink floyd one of these days

To me, you could do a stand up foul mouthed comedy routine as the lyrics providing the music itself is well thought out, written and performed.

its the melody that i hear first, although the beat must be pleasant. if the words are bad, i won't listen to it, but its the melody which is most important to me.
