Without question he is stil King! Elvis Presley did not invent Rock and Roll, but he made it mainstream. Before Elvis, music belonged to adults...there was not an form of music that the teens and young adults could call their own. Through his looks, gyrations and age, he created the Rock and Roll persona. Without Elvis Presley, the all important black influence would never have taken effect...James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Little Richard, B B King, Chuck Berry, Berry Gordy, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Wilson Pickett and countless others are on record as saying so.

Elvis was the first Rock sex symbol, it's first movie star, and the first super star. So you see, yes elvis did not invent Rock And Roll but he did invent the formula for it that has kept it around for nearly 7 decades!

Much respect to Elvis, but sorry, no he is not the king. He was extremely talented, and he was very popular, so he will live in the hearts of many as the king. And his popularity did help tear down walls that blocked it before. But the sounds of black music grew popular in young white populations as early as the Harlem Renaissance, long before Elvis. White flappers and guys in racoon coats danced the Charleston to black music long ago. But the white established leadership of our country continued to block access to this influence for many decades. Let's not revise history, by giving Elvis credit for an already popular form of music.

And of course we all know the powers behind the recording industry discriminated against the true inventors of the rock n roll sound. Those powerful executives could boycott the original artists, cut them out, or even shut them down (such as when they came up with a way to imprison Chuck Berry.) Then they repackaged the sound for their own white artists, and for their own profit. Often the original artist was not even given credit at least for writing the songs!

Why don't you ask Chuck Berry about that, He is still alive and still active in St. Louis. He might disagree with you about Elvis.

Of course he didn't "invent" rock. But he's still the king. Did Michael Jackson "invent" pop music? No. But he was the king. Every reason you can give for MJ being king of pop you can give Elvis for being king of rock n roll.

Definatley NOT! Chuck Berry is the ONLY AND TRUE KING of rock and roll
Elcis "copycat" Presley took all Berry's credit! Presley is dead and an old has-been failure of music. Chuck Berry is STILL ALIVE and is going strong!
Long live Chuck Berry, The King Of Rock And Roll

He never was. Years before he was in the limelight, people played that kind of music. But you know why they weren't popular? Because of segregation. The only reason Elvis was made a star was because he was white, he could sing, and he was a pretty-boy (don't get me wrong, he was gorgeous). The music style and the dancing was all invented by the black people and he got credit for it.

I don't like the oldies rock 'n' roll very much, but I prefer listening to Chuck Berry over Elvis anyway.

I have nothing against Elvis, I just know that he didn't invent rock 'n' roll (or the dances he did).

Elvis is the true KING OF POP.
That phrase was used to describe him in 1965. And it still applies.
Elvis: King of Pop, Rock, Country and Gospel.

Elvis was not over-rated. He had a great voice and could actually sing. Lately, I look at who is most popular in music today, and I wonder how they even made it music.

He was very overated and copyed dance moves from black people and got credit for it. They say he was pregidest and many said the same thing too. I will admit he put music mainstream.

He is still seen in many places, like Las vegas....and well...lots of other places. He is still referred to as "The King" even through my generation (and I'm fourteen) people still refer to him as that....
