Is Ellen’s Homosexuality To Blame For Drop In ‘Idol’ Ratings?

Yes, Ellen is so out there, but no one wants to know this stuff.
No, of course not. It's more about Simon Cowell than Ellen.

Amid all the theories about why “American Idol” has dipped in the ratings in this year, here’s a new one: It’s because Ellen DeGeneres is a “lesbian activist.”

“This season's new judge, Ellen DeGeneres, is the recipient of a good deal of the blame for the rating drop, but not for the glaringly obvious reason: Miss DeGeneres is a lesbian activist,” the director of Christian Newswire writes.

In January, the author predicted that “… the producers of American Idol will be shocked when their market share has cratered, and will in all honesty find a dozen other reasons for the drop in ratings. After all, what successful television producer could have a clue what wholesomeness is as long as they see promoting homosexuality as a virtue."

Personally, we blame Simon Cowell’s imminent departure, the absence of Paula Abdul, Kara’s abrasiveness and Ellen’s lack of insight into the music biz, along with a relatively dull batch of contestants this year.

What do you think? Is Ellen’s sexuality to blame?

What? That's ridiculous... American Idol has simply run it's course. The end was coming for all to see for quite some time now.

    Exactly.

It's a shame (for some Christians I suppose) that some portions of Christianity behave in this manner. It's sending people away in droves... Fine by me, but certainly seems counter-productive.

I think America is getting tired of American Idol and is ready to move on. If Ellen has anything to do with it, it's because she's not very funny on the show (which is really why she was brought on, right?), not because of her sexual orientation.

well, the only reason i'm not watching this year is because all the contestants are boring. ;D

Paula left, Kara is a bitch, Ellen is only there to add some comedy and lightness to the show, and Simon's leaving. It's just boring anymore.

So that's just stupid. Just because we don't like the show, or maybe we don't like Ellen, it doesn't mean we're homophobes.

I stopped watching because in the first auditions, they showed all of the good singers instead of the hilarious ones. Bleh. :P They need to end the show soon instead of milking it.

Personally I'm fed up with lesbianism and homosexuality constantly rammed down my throat and the not so subtle threat that I'd better accept it - or else - or else the sensitivity training police, the threats of being charged with 'hate' crimes ,etc.

Heterosexuals such as myself don't threaten lesbians and homosexuals with sensitivity training, hate crimes and so on. What those people mean by 'hate' crimes is that that they hate God, hate the Bible, hate what it teaches and hate the fact that not everyone on the planet accepts their perversions as the new 'normal'.

Society is so screwed up that it's acceptable to spew hatred against Christians when they're not mocking them. I don't care if some politically correct people with porridge for brains wants to insult me, I'd rather have God's approbation than theirs any day as any real Christian would. We follow the Bible, not insipid little people who make up an arbitrary list of what's acceptable or hot at any given time; and my response to 'socokid' who wrote 'It's sending people away in droves... Fine by me, but certainly seems counter-productive.' is: I don't give a hoot what you or others think!

Tell ya what - when you start accepting God's authority as perfect, and my right to be a politically incorrect Christian who sounds off ...

Maybe that sort of thing is acceptable in Hollyweird where everything that perverse is championed, but in the real world it's not anywhere near normal! I wish there were more wholesome programming like there was in years past.

if anything is to "raise" the ratings would be the fact that this is Simon's last season...

if ellen being a lesbian is dropping the ratings, then why isn't HER show canceled...?
She has a great show going on...
Why would a network hire someone who would cause their ratings to drop?

Let's face it, the contestants were not as interesting as past seasons..
After Adam Lambert, screaming is little gay lungs out, that didn't make any ratings drop..
and with all the stuff her wore onstage; a bunch of kids in acoustic guitars, seems a bit sleepy...

You kept seeing Ryan Seacrest squeeze emotions out of these guys.

Also the fact that we already know to expect, "beatles week" and "songs from soundtracks week", "inspirational songs"...blah blah..
They didn't spice things up at all...

And when you have Paula leaving (whom I didn't notice was gone for a while) and suddenly Simon leaving, it makes people quit watching...

Ellen is fantastic, Idol is just over simon's leaving,in fact the only reason i watched this year was because of Ellen.her being gay has nothing to do with the shows ratings.also dancing with the stars had some great stars,so i think that's the biggest factor.

Well I don't think Ellen has anything to do with it.. she's an entertainer herself and I think brought a different aspect to the show.. Simon leaving could be a factor.. but it seems to me that it is pretty popular so not sure why anyone thinks it's tanking? perhaps next year if they don't have good replacements for missing staff (judges)..

That is utterly ridiculous... then again, Americans often take ridiculousness to a whole new level. It seems ridiculous to me. I agree it has more to do with Simon leaving, Paula being gone, Kara being a bitch who really isn't that brilliant a singer (just saying), and the fact that American Idol is one of the most boring television programmes out there... then again, I hate reality television.

No it has nothing to do with Ellen's sexuality at all. Although she isn't a very good judge, considering she says the same thing to everyone all the time.
The contestants sucked this year and Paula's gone that's probably why.

I didn't even remember she was a lesbian till I saw this. It's not like she flags it around.

But for the whole, 'no one gives a crap about Idol' deal, I think it's much more. While Simon is prolly a major factor, I bet it's the whole not-so-amazing winners we keep seeing. The last several winners were forgotten within a month and that's because they don't shine. Idol even got desperate enough to start including behind-the-scenes drama.

No standouts this season. Kara is annoying, Simon is leaving and I think the concept is just tired. Ellen's sexuality is hardly the reason that people stopped tuning in: it's cuz the show's just not that good anymore.

It is Ellen's sexuality that is causing the demise of IDOL! She is also responsible for the oil leak in the Gulf, the Son of Sam killer, tainted lettuce, swine flu, tornados, high oil prices, the stock market bust, and unemployment! Get the message?????

putting all of the blame on her is wrong, since it's a variety of reasons, but I did ask why the hell she was on it because, she's not a singer or musician. If this was "Comedy Idol" then that would be fine since that's her racket, but to have her judging musicians when she isn't one adds to a big "WTF?". My family stopped watching after Adam Lambert (who is out) lost. Frankly, I really don't care. If she was on the show talking about her sexuality 24/7, then I'd say boot her, not because of her sexuality but because of the fact that that is not what the show is about. "A.I." is supposed to be about finding the next really good singer, not about who's bedding who, be they straight or gay.

It has nothing to do with her sexuality... but more to do with her lack of industry experience... therefore her comments were lackluster and often seemed to puppet what someone else said.... she should not have been hired to begin with on American Idol... no real "star power" there...her obvious insecurity about what she said showed, and therefore a bit hard to take her commentary serious.... but I do like her own show
