Bill Maher, atheist extraordinaire and host of HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher," has lost 26 Emmys over the course of his career. When asked why he's always a nominee and never a winner, he cited his outspoken atheism.
"A panel of like 10 people watches one tape. If half of those people are religious, that probably eliminates me right there. A lot of people wouldn't vote for such an outspoken atheist, someone who made 'Religulous,'" he told The Hollywood Reporter.
Maher has taken an aggressive stance against religion in everything he's been involved in, from his early stand-up comedy career to a number of talk shows, including "Politically Incorrect," that he's been involved in.
Maher took an especially strong stance in his documentary "Religulous," in which he went around the world speaking with various religious observers and scientists in an effort to describe the concept of religion as violent and damaging.
When asked if he would ever make another documentary like "Religulous," Maher said, "I have no desire to make another. I had one subject that I wanted to paint on a bigger canvas than I could in television and in a place that would live in a more permanent way ... I feel I have harpooned my Moby Dick."
"Politically Incorrect" actually did win one Emmy in 2000 for Outstanding Technical Direction, but Maher was not involved in that aspect of the show and was not listed as a recipient of the award.

But I do like Bill Maher. I just haven't watched a whole lot of his stuff, particularly his HBO show 'cause I always forget it's on.
He thinks God doesn't love him.
Bill, if I give you a gold star . . . will that make you feel better?
He should take lessons in grace and and class from Susan Lucci.
Idiot
We, as Americans are given the right to have any faith, or belief...
What really concerns me is the narrow-mindedness of some people in today's society.
I respect all faiths and religions.
JO
So if Bill Maher rejects the label of "atheist" because he believes in a deity, he really has no reason to complain about unfair treatment for being an atheist when he isn't one.
Also his competition was way better than his show, he didn't have a chance in hell of winning.
Poor narcissist was denied his narcissistic award.
Those with closed minds tend to blow him off but if you are open minded and intelligent he does give a different perspective and food for thought.
The number of people who listen to his show is the reason he is able to achieve the income he gets. Honestly earned by entertaining the masses.
I detect a modicum of jealousy in your comment that you earn your income honestly.
