"American Idol" is one of the highest rated shows in all of television, but those behind the hit series are facing a serious allegation of racism. Former "Idol" hopefuls Corey Clark, Jaered Andrews, Donnie Williams, Terrell and Derrell Brittenum, Thomas Daniels, Akron Watson, Ju'Not Joyner, Chris Golightly, and others have filed a complaint, claiming that racism played a role in their elimination from "Idol."
The former contestants allege that the show's producers drew attention to black contentants with arrest records in order to publicly expose them and in turn boost the show's ratings. As of this time, the complaint has not led to a lawsuit against "Idol," but those alleging the show is "racist" hope that United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission will investigate the matter.
One thing that can hurt the validity of the former contestants' complaints is the fact that there have been a number of African American "Idol" winners and successful alumni, including Fantasia Barrino, Jennifer Hudson, Ruben Studdard, and Jordin Sparks. Even if there is ultimately no major backlash from the complaint, bad press is never good press for "Idol" or any other successful franchise.

Splinter76 2013/01/28 00:14:54No+15Hate the show, but I don't think it's racist at all. I will say that I don't believe Jennifer Hudson was a winner. btw - The term "racist" gets thrown around so much that most people have forgotten it's horrid, vile, disgusting, painful history. Just because you don't get things given to you or just because someone disagrees with you does NOT mean there is a racist agenda at work.

1- Do racists hire Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and the black guy at the end of the picture? No.
2- Do racists allow African Americans to win the show like the names mentioned before? No.
I think the reasons that they have given here are very poor- they may have substance to them, but I doubt it.
Whoever cons the greatest fan responses of the top 20 or whatever it is this year, WINS, pretty simple concept.
HOW DAMNED DARE THEY I SAY!
I don't doubt racism exists, I've seen it.
But I ALSO know that racism, as defined by the national media is such a piece of $h!T LIE that the very concept of racism is losing it's power to influence people.
it has been screamed at us from the rooftops for 5 years straight, and I am ready to completely ignore as irrelevant anyone who lets that word escape their lips in a casual manner.
This American Idol situation is not racism.
Racism use to mean something, now it's a big joke.....
American Idol is long past its time. They should have cancelled it after Simon and Paula left. Then people would have been left with good memories of the show instead of the bad ones they have now. Now people are so sick of the show that they're starting to hate it. Plus their choice of [new] judges isn't helping anything. Listening to Nikki and Mariah go back and forth makes me want to scream, pull my hair out, and throw my TV out the window. American Idol has had its run but it really needs to end.
