Etta James was a huge influence on many of today's greatest singers, and some of the songs that made her famous have become vocal performance standards. In honor of her iconic career, the Recording Academy would like to pay tribute to James with a performance by Alicia Keys at the Grammy Awards this Sunday. Keys has been a long-time fan, and expressed her sorrow via Twitter the day James passed away.

James' death on January 20 was not completely unexpected, as she had been diagnosed with leukemia in 2011, but it had a heavy emotional toll on the music industry. Her signature version of "At Last" is easily the most well-known recording of the song, even though it has been covered by Miles Davis, Nat King Cole, Judy Garland, and Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell, Celion Dion, and Aretha Franklin. Do you think Alicia Keys is the right performer to honor Etta James at the upcoming Grammys?

I think she is. When I think of Alicia Keys, I think of someone who is in this business for the pleasure of making music and having an actual connection with music, much like Etta James. Beyonce or someone like her, on the other hand, would ruin the tribute. I feel as if she would completely disrespect Etta James.

One doesn't have to think long as to why Alicia Keys is selected over Beyonce. Beyonce, I believe, disrespected Etta James. She received no input from the woman, in the making/telling of the Jazz Legend's life's work. The bio pic was considered a disaster - by public indifference - which was unfortunate.

Etta James have influenced a lot of our great singers today. Alicia Keys, Beyonce and Christina
Agullera all can pull it off, because all of them are great singers! So to ask if Alicia Keys is the right one to perform or honor Etta James, it really doesn't matter because she can!!!

While I don't know a lot about Alicia Keys, she seems to be a pretty grounded person. Etta James was a most incredible talent and although I'm not a huge blues fan, I was fortunate enough to see her in concert and it was amazing.
