America, your new “Idol” is … Lee DeWyze.

With just 2% of the votes separating him from runner-up Crystal Bowersox, Lee had the “Beautiful Day” he was dreaming of Wednesday night, being proclaimed “DeWinner” of “American Idol” before a crowd of thousands while fireworks, lasers, confetti and any other over-the-top display the “Idol” producers could think of rained down upon him.

I really don't get it how can so many people say that Lee has a good voice?!! Every time he sings he struggles to hit the notes the entire song and even the times he hits the notes if he tries to hold it for more than a couple of seconds he sounds pitchy and his voice gets swallowed up in a lot of the songs. He is a great guy but I thought Idol was a singing contest at least that is what the judges claim. This was the most disappointing Idol out of the 9 seasons which is a shame because Idol has given a lot of kids a shot to do what they love.

Well actually I was okay with it either way. Crystal was the stand out talent from the beginning. I didn't think she fit the norm for American Idol so I was thrilled that she made it to the final. She is amazing, very talented. She did have to stretch herself during the competition but she knows who she is and with the help I'm sure she will get she will probably have the stronger career.

Lee has an amazing voice and people love him. In my opinion he was the most improved over the course of the competition, his performance skills and overcoming shyness, not his voice which didn't really need it. I think that he will benefit more from the mentoring the show will provide for him during the year and it will make him a better performer in the long run.

I hope that Mike will be picked up too. I would never tire of hearing him sing.

Crystal was so much better! She had natural talent and was great the whole season. Lee just started getting good at the end of the season.

Crystal was annoying, fake and not genuine. Lee was....Lee wins. But that is how this goes....they blame it on the size of the town the contestant is from if the small town person doesn't win...but find something else to blame it on in the case of Adam Lambert.....who cares...someone wins and people buy the music they like. Get over it. Great job Lee...your version of Hallelujah and Simple Man were freakin' amazing!

Crystal was clearly the better singer performer. I think the reason Lee won was because he is from Chicago and thus had a bigger home town population voting for him. I dunno...

This is the second year in a row that the better person didn't win.

I agree but was more prepared for that to happen this year than I was last year. It seems to me that the stand out naturally talented artist is less likely to win for some reason. But just like Adam, Crystal is going to land on her feet and take off, I am sure of it!

Even with the ever-apparent pimping of Lee, he remained emotionless and out-of-tune on every song I heard him sing. Crystal was head and shoulders above him, with her versatility alone. I won't be watching it again.

I must admit Crystal sang better in the finalie but she had three weeks of singnig that were not good. Lee was consistently good all season and deserved to win.

Crystal won, in the sense that she out performed Lee. But the demographics for the show are such that the Lee will always win over the Crystal. That's why this 57 year old guy is done with it. Just like Survivor. Idiots are growing up and going to run the world. Look out!

I must be honest and say that I have never watched American Idol. However, being from the same place that Crystal is from, I was rooting for her. Judging what a lot of people have said, it seems that Crystal should have one. She has a lot of talent and hopefully she's gotten enough exposure to make it to the top with a good record deal, I wish her the best.

I liked Lee, but Crystal definitely was the more talented. She may be hoping to make a lot of money but she wouldn't be has good as she is if she didn't love music. She is just honest about it.

Crystal not winning is probably the best thing for her future. Lee will sink into obscurity soon anyway and Crystal's music will be what she wants it to be, not the IDOL conglomerate.

I agree with person that American missed this one 2 years in a row. Example Chris Allen was a great good looking guy, but Adam Lambert was the better singer with less popularity. Look now, Chris Allen music sucks at this point. The whole purpose of the show is to find a great new artist. Not someone who wins a popularity contest. Yes C. Bowersox admits she in it for the money, but she earned the chance to make money as she clearly was the best over all singer of the whole entire season. She is the person I would like to hear her music. Lee, is a great guy, but his singing needs work. She has a great voice, but sings very pitchy consistently, and Chrystal looks, feels, and sings like an artist. The only true idols that really have made a mark on the industry is C. Underwood, K. Clarkson, and Chris Doughtry. The rest won because some teenager thought someone was cute and popular.

YES! Although Crystal was very very good, she indicated early on that she was in it for the money ("I want my daughter to have a better life than I ever did") and for Lee it was clearly all about the craft! The good guy wins for a change!

Are you crazy? Anyone can clearly see that Crystal was the more artistic of the two. She had pure soul...Lee didn't. Everytime Crystal sang something it came from her perspective...Lee just sang it flat out with no creative spark.

Yes, I suppose he grew into the role.
Honestly, I am looking forward to buying the Bowersox cd when it is available, She is an all around musician, great stage presence. Nothing against Lee, but I think Crystal will have more staying power.
