I regard Jimi Hendrix as a guitar genius with an articulate set of messages. But I don't seem him as leaving much of a musical legacy.

He's already been dead for 42 years and we're still talking about him and listening to his music. I doubt that will be true for many musicians.

I think he does leave a musical legacy. Many guitarists, even to this day, list him as an influence.

He wasn't with us for a long period of time, but what he did during that time was gold and his music still is relevant today. He greatly influenced musicians and artists that came after him.

Yes, he was only famous for about 3 years before he died, but his legacy lives on.

by comparison "Lady Gaga" has been well-known for 4 years
