- Living Ichigo 2012/05/02 11:23:32Ugh+2I know it has to lose it's spot sometime, but I didn't think it'd be that fast. And out of all the movies....God...Why "Think Like a Man"? It seems like pathetically pointless drama.reply

(At this point he and Madea are not helping the black people stereotype. :/) Now if only this Twilight bullcrap will die... >.>reply

I like him too, but I think he needs to slow down it down a little before it's like, "Why Did I Get Married 13?: Grandma Knows Best".reply - ladyO 2012/04/24 02:25:49Ugh+2out of all movies.... really????? this is BSreply

+1Why?reply - mae S123 2012/04/24 10:51:02
Never liked the story line of teens pitted against each other to the death over food..As if teens don't have enough angst already about image, acceptance, peers and pressure to belong to a group or click...along comes a story that wraps the whole mess into one package. Teens killing each other for food is just morbid.reply - S123 mae 2012/04/24 18:33:06
+1Do you think that's portrayed positively? It's social commentary. And it isn't just over food, they are forced to fight by the Capital.reply - mae S123 2012/04/25 00:21:21
Right...whatever you say. A movie based on a sick premise, promoted as a social commentary. It deserves to go away. Nothing entertaining about it. I see you have really bought the farm on this one. Sorry about that.reply - S123 mae 2012/04/25 02:20:00
+1Why don't you believe that it's social commentary? There is a rebellion ageist the Hunger Games later in the series.reply - mae S123 2012/04/25 02:32:55
It's a Novel. People have tried to say that Harry Potter series, Twilight series, Star Wars series are also social commentaries. These are whatever you want them to be. But above all else, they are Novels. Fiction.reply - S123 mae 2012/04/25 17:43:55
+1It's a dystopia. Don't you think other dystopias like 1984 and The Handmaids’ Tale are social commentary? They are novels too.reply - mae S123 2012/04/26 00:31:53
Good points, but my main contention with this is forced warfare of one teen against another for food. Too much like Lord Of The Flies for me.reply - S123 mae 2012/04/26 01:30:02
+1You don't like Lord Of The Flies? I haven't read it but I think it sounds like it raises some important points. Both are meant to be disturbing.reply - mae S123 2012/04/26 01:46:40
Lord of the Flies was forced reading when I was in High school--I think back then you couldn't graduate if you didn't complete the English Lit. reading list. It was OK, you'll like it. Never read/ heard of Handmaids' Tale. They are considered social commentary, but the fact remains, they are Fiction, a novel. Ayn Rand's Fountainhead is another social commentary, fictitious, caused a big uproar when it came on the market.reply - S123 mae 2012/04/26 02:10:07
+1Why do you think that a book being fictional contradicts the idea of it being social commentary? I think The Handmaids Tale is basicly a dystopia about sex slavery.reply - mae S123 2012/04/26 02:37:18 (edited)
It doesn't necessarily contradict it. All these books are Fiction. Every year, a new one comes out, grabs LOTS of attention for a while, then fades away into into the school Libraries and the movie channels. They ALL say they are social commentary. It helps sales when the public is lured into buying with pitches such as: An Important Social Commantary, Not To Be Missed! Human Behavior At Its Most Raw And Compelling! I dislike any story that pits teenagers against each other, Especially if it involves killing each other, over food, no less. "Social Commentary" is a gimmick. Saying a book has" important issues" is a gimmick, used by publishers world wide, and has certainly caught me on more than one occation. It is a way to gather more public interest toward a novel that would otherwise have been ignored by a wider reading audience...Its all about selling as many books as possible. Virtually any book of fiction could be marketed as "A Riveting Social Commentary, So Pertinent To Our Times!" That does not make it a good book....it just makes it a book that is being cleverly marketed to make the buyer feel better about buying it.reply - S123 mae 2012/04/26 03:42:18
+1Either way the Hunger Games are portrayed negatively. The teens (and 12 year olds) who are chosen are forced by the fascist government to kill each other on a reality show. Like I said, later in the series there is a rebellion against the Capital to stop the Hunger Games.reply - ifly513 2012/04/24 01:02:29InevitableThink like a man is like the best movie ever.....in my opinionreply
