According to a recent Gallup poll, the majority of Americans plan to watch a significant amount of Olympic coverage. 59% of respondents said that they’d watch a “great deal” or “fair amount.” 28% plan to watch “not much” of the Olympics, and the remaining 13% plan to watch “none at all.” These percentages are similar to those from the past three Summer Olympics.

Gallup Olympics Poll

More women (63%) than men (53%) will be tuning in to watch a fair amount or a great deal of the summer games. This is a change from previous years when viewership was evenly divided by gender. There were no other significant differences among American subgroups.

Gallup Olympics Poll

When it comes to platforms, the overwhelming majority of Americans plan to watch the Olympics on television. Only 4% said that they’d primarily tune in via the Internet, despite the fact that all events will be live-streamed online (to cable subscribers) for the first time ever.

So, what about you SodaHeads? How much Olympic coverage do you plan to watch?

I'd say none at all, but it's on at work, so I'm exposed.

I can only somewhat tolerate NBC's idiotic "during the break..." when the coverage is pre-recorded and therefore there is NO REASON to miss ANYTHING. Like volleyball last night - what excuse is there that we missed 5 scored points during a commercial when it isn't live?

Not to mention they just don't shut up yet they never say anything useful, like explaining why a gymnast received deductions.

So I go in and out and try to catch actual events.

Yeah, I hate that. I was watching fencing the other day, and then went to commercial for the entirety of the bronze medal match (which was supposedly spectacular). They came back and told us the match had gone to sudden death overtime. Said OT lasted 34 seconds, and then they went back to commercial!

As much swimming as I can. This is my first Olympics without Mum, and we used to be so into it. We'd wake up in the middle of the night to watch the swimming together so I plan to keep that tradition going.
