According to a recent Gallup poll, the majority of Americans plan to watch a significant amount of Olympic coverage. 59% of respondents said that they’d watch a “great deal” or “fair amount.” 28% plan to watch “not much” of the Olympics, and the remaining 13% plan to watch “none at all.” These percentages are similar to those from the past three Summer Olympics.

Gallup Olympics Poll

More women (63%) than men (53%) will be tuning in to watch a fair amount or a great deal of the summer games. This is a change from previous years when viewership was evenly divided by gender. There were no other significant differences among American subgroups.

Gallup Olympics Poll

When it comes to platforms, the overwhelming majority of Americans plan to watch the Olympics on television. Only 4% said that they’d primarily tune in via the Internet, despite the fact that all events will be live-streamed online (to cable subscribers) for the first time ever.

So, what about you SodaHeads? How much Olympic coverage do you plan to watch?

Sa far, he isn't that great. Also, the 4 man relay last night pissed me off, our first three (including Phelps) got a HUGE lead for Lochte and he STILL LOST.

    Idiot.

I find it the most interesting and fun international sporting even of all time and watch as much as I can.It happen every four years so there is only so many times in a lifetime that one has the opportunity to watch such an historic sports event.I like it because most over 200 countries are involved and one can learn about athletes from all countries.

Good for them... I still couldn't care less about the events they're competing it. None of those sports interest me. Why is that so hard to understand?

It isn't hard to understand. I couldn't care less what you watch. I just wanted to let you know how many of your countrymen and woman are competing. Whether you care or not... shrug.

I am just too busy now to watch much these days. I prefer track and field and have never cared much for events that are judged. I like the events where you outscore or outpace your opponent. Also, more than ever, there are athletes who live, train and benefit much from the United States and then compete for a foreign country because they have a certain amount of ancestry from it. This is a joke. You should have to live, train, work and be a citizen of the country for which you compete. The Olympics have become too much like pro sports.

It was only meaningful when there was a USSR, and I associate everyone of our wins as another NUKE that we were hypothetically dropping on those evil commies.

China is doing a pretty good. Usually the Aussies do as well.

Just hope NBC continues to limit the "emotional" pieces and just shows sports.

I don't plan on watching any of it so you can scratch nbc. nbc executives are super stupid. They are always having preempting crap, such as golf or wimbleDumb and when they go back to regular programming, they don't get all their viewers back, then they wonder why they are number 4.

Oh yeah, I might watch the women's sports if they did them in the nude.
