How Much Are You Willing to Pay for a Concert Ticket?

"Ticket Masters: The Rise of the Concert Industry and How the Public Got Scalped" was just re-released with an extra chapter following the merger of ticketing giants Ticketmaster and Live Nation. In this revealing exposé of the industry, authors Dean Budnick and Josh Baron tell us that much of the blame for outrageous ticket prices should go to the artists who are much more in control of pricing than the general public realizes. They also point to our role as consumers in creating demand. That being said, how much would you be willing to pay to see your favorite band perform live?

What;s the point of paying $200 to be in a football stadium with a bunch of drunk losers and half a mile away from the stage? You get better "seats" on youtube for free...

I've been to 2 concerts and paid $30 combined. Also got to meet a band and get autographs at one...I like to find good deals. And thanks to where I live there's a lot of underground venues that are cheap.

Free concerts are almost here, Im working on some for 2014.

By 2016 they should be quite regular in many places.

Music is free, you pay for the extra perks.

Most of my favorite bands wouldn't be selling tickets over that much anyway. And I don't really have the money to be paying over $50 for a concert!
My Warped Tour ticket was $40 and it's an all day festival where I get to see several of my favorite bands as well as others too, of course. And I've been to Six Flags for concerts before and I got discounted tickets for the park (concert's free with admission) for about $35. Most other concerts I've been to have been under $20, as low as $10. And I've seen all but one of my top 5 favorite bands live (Paramore). Some I've seen several times. So I don't feel the need to go to a $70 concert lol

I'm going to the one in London, so there are different Bands, but I'm looking forwards to Lostprophets, BODF, Funeral for a Friend, Yashin and a few others :L. I'm really annoyed Rise Against isn't going though... D:
  • peaches Anonymo... 2012/07/06 16:06:05
Oh cool (: Yeah, Rise Against will be at the one I'm going to lol I dunno if we'll get to see them since I don't listen to them much. I'm going for All Time Low, We the Kings, Mayday Parade, and We are the In Crowd. Hopefully we'll get to see other good bands as well!

I love all time low as well :D. I went to Download a few weeks ago though, they had Black Sabbath, Rise Against, and Shinedown there the day I went :D. And they had You Me At Six, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Four Year Strong, Metallica and Prodigy, there were about 200 bands there :P
  • peaches Anonymo... 2012/07/07 04:31:03
I saw All Time Low live at a small local venue on the Dirty Work tour last year and since them I've been itching to see them again, so I'm super excited to see them! Anyway, that's quite a lot of bands, sounds awesome :P

Since there was no option for nothing to your question, "How much Are you Willing to Pay for a Concert ticket?" ... i say nothing. I'd rather spend the money on itunes to get the songs i want.
  • Anonymo... Cantus_... 2012/07/05 22:35:53

Why buy them on iTunes? About 9p goes to the actual artist... Just download them from YouTube...
  • Cantus_... Anonymo... 2012/07/06 12:47:44
No thank you. I buy them on itunes because i've heard all the controversy about artists complaining about individuals who steal their music by not paying for it ...

They don't really make any money out of music sales any more anyway, it's all from concerts...

Depending on who it is. I would pay anything to see the Scopions. I know there are others who feel that way about their own favorite bands.

Depends on who I'm seeing. If I really really dig the band, I'll be willing to pay a little more.
