"Ticket Masters: The Rise of the Concert Industry and How the Public Got Scalped" was just re-released with an extra chapter following the merger of ticketing giants Ticketmaster and Live Nation. In this revealing exposé of the industry, authors Dean Budnick and Josh Baron tell us that much of the blame for outrageous ticket prices should go to the artists who are much more in control of pricing than the general public realizes. They also point to our role as consumers in creating demand. That being said, how much would you be willing to pay to see your favorite band perform live?

What;s the point of paying $200 to be in a football stadium with a bunch of drunk losers and half a mile away from the stage? You get better "seats" on youtube for free...

It really depends on the band. I will only pay over $70 for a handful of bands.

It has to be one of my favourites for me to even consider reaching $50, and I would only pay $70 if it was in my top five favourites and very close by so I would make up for the price in not paying for too much gas. I would pay over $70, though, to listen to a full orchestra playing some of my favourite classical music.

Actually you'd have to pay me to go to one. I still have my hearing from not having attended them...unless you're referring to classical music.

You won't go deaf from attending a concert once in a while I mean unless your up the front hugging the singers feet.

I went to a Genesis concert (yes, I'm that old) and my ears were ringing for days. No thanks. I'm happy to still have my hearing. I can't tell you how many of my old hippy friends are nearly deaf.

Well the bands i like aren't really that expensive. One person music such as Justin Beiber, Rihanna, Kesha and all thatn is more expensive and i'm more into bands instead of solos. Maybe if my favorite band only had tickets of $70+ i would, but i don't think they'd do that

Well, my Uproar tickets for September cost about 150, and 180 last year. If it's a good enough band, I'll pay as much as I have to to get good seats. And if I have the money to spare.

I despise the the whole process and all the additional expenses on top of the ticket price.
Tickets usually sellout in 10 minutes and before that happens they are already appearring on the resell sites at inflated prices.
You're at a great disadvantage if you aren't a fast typist too.
Basically, I don't go anymore. There are few people I'm interested in seeing these days to justify the time, expense, and hassle.

it depends on the band i'm seeing. the most i've spent on a ticket was about $100. and that was for the big 4 concert. but usually it's $80 or less.

Zero, no way do I go to concerts anymore. Been there, did it, done it. For one thing every one has their hands out from the ticket guy to the promoter with tons of innocuous fees which have made the prices ridiculous.

I just recently splurged on two Rascal Flatts concert tickets in August...the tickets were $300 at least each. But It will be well worth it...I've waited 9 years to see them in concert.

The other concerts I've attended were less than $100 each...and these were for some big artists like Jeremy Camp, Jonas Brothers, Michelle Branch, Vanessa Carlton, Needtobreathe, Tenth Avenue North. My town has a concert venue that brings big artists but the tickets are way reasonable :)

It's so common to pay more than $70 dollars on a concert ticket.

But, if I saw there was a Tegan and Sara ticket for $200+. Chances are I'll buy it.

It really depends on the concert. Some bands are worth paying $70+ some are worth no more than $15.

Unless they paid YOU to go to the Lady GaGa concert, you got screwed...

Then again, I can't see anyone actually paying to hear any of the "music" (and I'm using that term VERY loosely) that they produce these days.

According to my professor who taught me mass media communications and used to be the manager for James Brown and worked for the Huffington Post told the class that artist make $1.25 per concert and 0$ from songs that get downloaded from itunes. I don't believe that artists themselves have much say in the prices its the industry that steals money from the artists. But of course the problem is also the demand by consumers.

I paid $150 to see Depeche Mode in Frankfurt, Germany once and it was totally worth it, I would have paid more if I had to.
