"Ticket Masters: The Rise of the Concert Industry and How the Public Got Scalped" was just re-released with an extra chapter following the merger of ticketing giants Ticketmaster and Live Nation. In this revealing exposé of the industry, authors Dean Budnick and Josh Baron tell us that much of the blame for outrageous ticket prices should go to the artists who are much more in control of pricing than the general public realizes. They also point to our role as consumers in creating demand. That being said, how much would you be willing to pay to see your favorite band perform live?

Lord Emperor of Dune 2012/07/06 23:15:51Less Than $20+5What;s the point of paying $200 to be in a football stadium with a bunch of drunk losers and half a mile away from the stage? You get better "seats" on youtube for free...

- Pam 2012/07/06 16:45:18$20-$50+2I remember when concert tickets were $5 a piece, its painful to see prices soar so that the average fan can't go to see their favorite shows. During the summer, I saw 1or 2 concerts a week, now kids are lucky if they can afford one a summer. Only exceptions are big multi band shows like Pointfest here in St. Louis where there are 30 bands for 30 bucks, sure some of them are turkeys, but there are at least 4 or 5 worth seeing.reply

- fitz 2012/07/06 16:16:11$20-$50+1Since the majority of people go in pairs, a $40 ticket costs the guy twice that; not counting parking, goodies, beer, etc. Anything more than that is just not fair to a high percent of the working family people.reply

reply - charles nelson 2012/07/06 15:58:19Less Than $20+1With wages for many people in this country nearly the same as their fathers made in the 80's ..... just keep country music concert tickets, oh say around 2.50, that would be just about right.reply

Oh lets be honest, save your money for the big concert in the sky.reply - SOUL4REAL 2012/07/06 15:55:43 (edited)$70 ++2My family and I attended the Michael Jackson "Victory" concert with his brothers in Pontiac,Michigan back in 1984 at the "Silver Dome" and I paid a $150.00 for each ticket! People was outside offering you 500.00 to 800.00 for your tickets because they had sold out,the offers sounded good but my children, came before some money. The money was worth it they put on a hell'va show,my son still have the stubs to the tickets. R.I.P. The "King" of Pop"!reply

No, honey our seats were in front row,so close we could almost touch them! You got scalped because you probably was up somewhere in the balcony with binoculars, so you can see. :)) I'm not a kid,I'm a grown woman! Never assume! Have a good day!reply - Pam SOUL4REAL 2012/07/06 23:00:56

- Weronikus 2012/07/06 15:51:47$20-$50+1I'm not really into concerts, I hate loud music and it's always so stuffy, but if it was someone I REALLY liked, after a lot of thought over it, I might spend those 50 dollars at most.reply
- Wiyao Boukpessi 2012/07/06 15:34:41Less Than $20+1I'm not paying a whole lot money just to see a musician do the same thing i see them do on the music channel or YouTube, that's ridiculous. I can watch concerts for free on YouTube or VH1.reply

- Ada Whitmire 2012/07/06 15:21:28$70 ++1It really depends on the seat. I wouldnt pay $70 for a backrow seat. And I only have a handfull of concerts I would go see. I am going to see one in Nov. no matter the cost as long as they are good seats. Like I always say if Im going to pay good money to see someone I want to be close enough for them to sweat on me, gross but truereply

first concert I went to, probably age 12 (1972) was Chicago and the Beach Boys at the Mississippi River Festival for $3. We had to park about 2 miles from the venue and rode to the concert on the hood of someone's car. Would cringe now, but it was great fun then.

- magdalena.nix 2012/07/06 14:38:42Less Than $20+1I'm kind of surprised how much people are willing to pay for concert tickets. Then I've only seen two concerts before and both were part of a "festival" that had lots of different bands and the price (from what I remember) was the same across the board no matter who you saw... I guess I'd have to have been to a concert dedicated to one individual band or singer to have a better judge of how a "real" concert goes but I always thought that if I had to pay more money to see Nickleback than a symphony or a ballet, then I'd rather see the symphony or ballet instead.reply
