"Ticket Masters: The Rise of the Concert Industry and How the Public Got Scalped" was just re-released with an extra chapter following the merger of ticketing giants Ticketmaster and Live Nation. In this revealing exposé of the industry, authors Dean Budnick and Josh Baron tell us that much of the blame for outrageous ticket prices should go to the artists who are much more in control of pricing than the general public realizes. They also point to our role as consumers in creating demand. That being said, how much would you be willing to pay to see your favorite band perform live?

What;s the point of paying $200 to be in a football stadium with a bunch of drunk losers and half a mile away from the stage? You get better "seats" on youtube for free...

I'm not one to pay more than $40 for a concert ticket, but if it's one of my favourite bands, I won't mind paying a bit more.

.....that scum trash like ticket master have been able to leech off of artist is repulsive, here in Nashville ,Keith Urban put on a "25 dollar" concert, after all was said and done less than 200 25 dollar tickets were available and Ticket master was exposed for the scalping scum they are. Nothing would be better than to see all of the artist band together and do away with the scalping racket

Cause by the time you add all the ticketmaster rape you fees and taxes, a sub $20 ticket will cost you $40 anyway. Sadly as long as there are enough idiots willing to pay $100 a seat, they are happier selling 25K $100 tickets than 100k $25 tickets, less problems, same profit, fans be damn.

It depends.... I would pay a lot to meet my favorite bands, such as My Chemical Romance, Paramore... and I would love to go back in time and meet The Beatles.... but for now I think just watching the concerts on Youtube for free will be better.

I've spent as much as 200 bucks on a ticket. It's not an everyday expense, and with some Classic bands, I'm never too sure when I'll get the chance again. It's been worth every penny.

I really prefer to hear them from cd or dvd, as they come to me, and I don't have the expense of travel, food, etc. to pay for, so lower prices are a must - generally, prices rise to be the highest that the market will bear - just don't pay high, and they will come down. Boycott performances, and going for recordings will do the trick.

    depends on the concert.
for a 1 band show... probably about $70. (including TM fees and taxes)
for a weekend music festival (like Coachella, we've gone 5 times now) we've paid more than $300 per ticket... but that's for like 3 days, 6 stages, hundred artists....worth every penny!!!!
i agree that Ticketmaster can suck it.... and i applaud the artists that have boycotted their practices and have gone a different route. I am not rich and i cannot afford $300 Lady Gaga, Madonna, etc. tickets... so i guess i just won't go to their shows.
it's all good!!! there's enough talent out there every night in every city who play for free or a $10 door charge....

I don't like spending a lot of money at once, especially on a single ticket. It'd have to be a pretty awesome band or orchestra to convince me to pay more than 50 dollars.
