It's been up in the air for a while, but it's finally official: "How I Met Your Mother" is getting a ninth season, and then that's it. Finally, after all these years, we're going to meet the mother!

The news broke by cast member Cobie Smulders, who's played Robin Scherbatsky from the very first season, speaking to E! while promoting her new film "Safe Haven." She admitted that she "sort of thought it was going to happen and then around the holidays when it started feeling like, 'Oh, it might not [happen],' it made me really sad. Because it's the end of an era and How I Met Your Mother has become like a second home to me."

How I Met Your Mother

However, now the series has been confirmed, she says "it'll be nice starting season nine knowing this is it," and that she's going to "soak it in," and "really be grateful and enjoy this last year." Smulders also says that she doesn't "really know their intention for next season," but that she "know[s] they've figured out everything." Are you still interested in the ending of "How I Met Your Mother?"

    Not falling for it
One of the best shows of all time.

Here is a scenario I wouldn't mind seeing:

The year is 2030. Ted Mosby is 52 years old, still sad and alone, while all his friends are married. He goes to a strip club, gets wasted, and ends up going home with one of the dancers, who happens to be a single mother. The morning after, as Ted prepares for his walk of shame, he walks out to find the women's two kids on the couch. They awkwardly ask how this random stranger in their house knows their mom. Ted, being his socially awkward self, tells these two random children his entire life story, leading up to HOW HE MET THEIR MOTHER.

They did good but as the creators pointed out Ted should have met his wife by now.

I'm still interested but Barney and Robin marrying will be a mistake. Also I think it will be around longer. I think I heard that Jason Siegel was the hold out but he decided to stay on and now the show will go on beyond season 9. Seriously though...I am starting to lose some interest...

Wasn't really ever into it to begin with. "Ha ha" shows really aren't my thing.
I'm more of a Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Adventure, Mystries, Horror, and Crime Drama
    kind of guy.

I think most people who like HIMYM will be looking forward to finally seeing how Ted met his future wife. I mean, that's what got me into the show - and then I stayed for Barney and Robin, because reasons. o3o''

Never watch ONE episode, much less been interested. I was on vacation and saw a commercial for that show... EWWW, even the commercial should have been rated "S" for skank.

I have enjoyed this silly light-hearted sitcom over the years if they can squeeze out another season more power to them.

Pretty hard to imagine a gay guy having all of these women girlfriends. The show does not have an ounce of reality about it at least make it sound real.

I came into the show a bit late, around the third season, but I quickly caught up with the stories, and I have to honestly say that this show is one of my favorites. Sure, I think they may be dragging it out a little bit, but I love the characters, and I genuinely love the "nothing" episodes, where not much happens, but the characters grow, or change somehow...and the plot themes are relevant to me as someone who is in the same age group as the characters are meant to be. A lot of episode themes have really struck a chord with me, and more than a couple have directly dealt with a topic that was relevant in my life at that time, and helped me look at the situation from a broader angle. I'll be sad to see them go, but they have certainly had their moment, and like Friends, HIMYM will be one of those TV shows that will always be dear to my heart.
