    It's close, but I'd have to say the movies. For some reason Viggo Mortensen just gives the movies something extra, to me anyway. Absolutely love the books though. Read 'em through three or four times now. :)

    the books are definetly the way to go. i enjoyed the movies, i really felt as if the essence of the books was captured by jackson and his crew. however, there is nothing like the book. tolkien was a passionate writer and you get such a different feel from reading his words than seeing it. i must once again give credit to the movies....but the book was waaaay better.

    I could not get past the first chapter of the book! I love the movies though... on a comfy couch or bed, because it was hell trying to stay comfortable at the theaters!
