She's blaming it on a medication prescribed for her menstrual cycle...the old "blame it on the period" excuse. Hmmm I think we've all heard that one before... Do you think she's telling the truth?

CSMONITOR.COM reports:
Hope Solo, the US soccer team goalkeeper, failed a drug test and received a warning Monday from the US Anti-Doping Agency. Hope Solo says she will still play in the Olympics.

I would tend to give her the benefit of the doubt because I can't figure out how performing enhancing drugs could help a female goalie. Hope isn't overly muscular and she doesn't have to be fast, just quick. I dunno, need more info, but obviously if she only got a warning, then whatever she tested for wasn't that big of a deal.

Canrenone- it is used as a diuretic by some.
very similar to Spironolactone when testing.. Thing is that it is an anti-androgen, which means it would slow down muscle growth if anything. Bodybuilders use is post cycle to help prevent any androgenic side effects or to shed the water weight some steroids cause. Any drug that makes the IOC think that that the user may have been taking steroids is a flag. like Proczar...men take it for fight hair loss cause by 'roids.....professionals aren't allowed to take it.

I tend to believe the test results over excuses of someone who stands to benefit from a different result and can't provide positive proof.

Solo doesn't seem like the type of person who would use drugs to improve her performance. She's already one of the best and would have no problem qualifying without the drugs. If she does it again, time to look into it, but it appears to be an honest mistake.

Camps are no joke, and prescription meds interfere with drug tests all the time. What athlete would be taking drugs during the olympic trials if they really wanted to represent their country in the games?

This stuff happens all the time. Even as a casual bodybuilder I know if im going to compete I get checked, before comp, and if I am on any med's I would get even more checks.

Professional athletes who's overpaid income relies on them keeping clean don't deserve the opportunity to provide excuses if they don't have the small level of care required to get themselves tested.

In this case yes, the drug testing for the olympics is insane, most of the drugs on the list are not what most people consider "performance enhancing". This specific drug is "sometimes used to flush the system"....which is questionable, but not necessarily something that people think about when they take a standard medication.
