Hollywood Bowl Opens for First Time 89 Years Ago: What's Your Favorite Music Venue?

SodaHead Music 2011/07/11 20:02:05
Nearly 90 years ago today, one of Los Angeles' most prized musical venues opened up shop with a performance by the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Since then, countless famous musicians have graced the outdoor stage including everyone from The Beatles to Luciano Pavarotti to Judy Garland.

But just because the popular L.A. landmark is a personal favorite doesn't mean it's the best music venue out there. Big or small, what's your favorite place to see a concert?

Been to several shows there as I had family who lived only a few miles away. You just have to experience it, and really need to be a local to appreciate it fully. Go to maps.google.com enter in "hollywood bowl", then click satellite view. Weather typically great, and nothing like an outdoor concert.

My favorite is Metro because it's where I saw my favorite singer's concert. It isn't that big of a place, and it isn't exactly new either, but I love it there and hope I get to go to more concerts there in the future. :3

I like the Casino Ballroom, Hampton Beach Nh. It's a rather small venue, but some of the best bands play there, the sound quality is great and no matter where you stand you can see everything.

Rough one. Red Rocks is gorgeous. Royal Albert is awe-inspiring. The Greek is pretty fantastic too. But I'm a big fan of Hollywood Bowl: the sound is phenomenal, you can pack a picnic/wine and enjoy yourself at your seat or on the lovely grounds, and it's a real EVENT. (I work with them sometimes, I may be biased.) ;)

If you like classical - and even if you're on the fence - the Bowl's concerts are a-may-zing. The newish conductor, Gustavo Dudamel, is doing a handful of shows starting this week and he is a wonder to watch. http://www.Hbowl.com/Gustavo If classical isn't your bag, there's everything form Sarah McLachlan with symphony to Ziggy Marley to Maroon 5 to blues and jazz and....well, pretty much something for everyone. Hope to see some of you there!

hmmm... tough one. i love red rocks in colorado, wolf trap in virginia, beacon theater in new york, and of course there's the walt disney concert hall in la - probably the sickest place for a concert i've been to yet.

I like Hartwood Acres, north of Pittsburgh, PA. Good outdoor venue, mostly free shows, big names on occasion. No clowns making idiots of themselves. Always fun, neat people in audience. Saw Doctor John couple years back, most of audience left due to rain. Small audience, great show; sat next to strangers who shared their snacks w/me. Another unforgettable concert moment.
