It's official. "Tudors" star Henry Cavill will don the legendary red cape to become the next Man of Steel in next year's movie, to be directed by Zack Snyder of "Watchmen" fame.
After Warner Bros. made the announcement Sunday, Snyder told Deadline, "I join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield ... In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen."
Cavill will only be the third actor to play Clark Kent and his alter ego in the official film series. Christopher Reeve, of course, played Superman in the first four movies, ending with "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace" in 1987. There's only been one sequel since, 2006's "Superman Returns" starring Brandon Routh.
According to MTV, Cavill was also a top contender for Christopher Nolan's Batman, played by Christian Bale, and the new "Green Lantern" movie, which was eventually given to Ryan Reynolds.

Dud

Henry William Dalgliesh Cavill (born 5 May 1983) is a British actor.
That says it all. Every moment of screen time all I will know is that one of the MOST iconic American characters is being played by a BRITISH actor.
Now, that's Superman.
I'm hoping they will see the light and ditch this guy like they did with the Nick Cage stuff back before Routh got the job. Christopher Reeve is rolling over in his grave right now. Btw, I almost thought it might work out. While over at ign.com I was looking at pics of the new movie "The Immortals." I got Cavil confused with Kellan Lutz from Twilight. Check out the photos. The kid looks 1000 times more like Superman.
Bale was a good choice and then he proved everyone wrong when he cast Heath ledger(RIP) as the joker.
Henry Cavill has great range and i think he will do great as both Clark Kent and Superman.
Tom Welling is this generations Superman, and he should be in the new movie not this dud Henry.
But now I'm like:
:D
I thought Smallville was pushing it.
and you'd be all like "Thanks..."
