Heisman Bradford Rejects NFL: Should he stay at Oklahoma?

W_C 2009/01/15 20:41:06

Sam Bradford, who played as the quarterback for the Oklahoma Sooners at OU, was the Heisman Trophy winner and says he's not ready to leave. Bradford is passing up a chance to be an NFL draft pick to stay at Oklahoma as a third-year sophomore because he won't leave the Sooners without a national Championship. Even after winning the Heisman Trophy, Bradford said that he had always dreamed about going to OU, and he doesn't want to cut his experience short just for a chance at the NFL draft. As well as staying to try and achieve a national championship, Bradford will have a chance to win another Heisman Trophy.

Should Bradford stay with the Sooners at OU, or should he go for the NFL draft?

He needs to get his degree and then the NFL. Too many times, these kids get all excited and sacrifice their long term goal of getting a degree and a solid career for the quick buck & fame. It is not what it seems. One good hit and it is over. excited sacrifice term goal degree solid career buck fame hit

Because I love watching him play every Saturday :) But seriously? He has the Heisman curse... Ride the college experience out buddy, because pretty soon you'll be selling cars or tending bar beggin for a peice of ass like most of the other former OU starters! (Most of them are from the national champ team in 2000.) I just had one of them hit on me the other day at a bar on campus... and I happen to know that his car is up for repossession. I had to pretend like I didn't hear him over the music- it wasn't pretty : /

All other reasons aside I respect the fact he's not cutting his college experience short to chase the NFL. My husband did the same then was injured in NFL training camp which ended any chance of playing, had he not finished his college experience that opportunity would have been lost. The human body and other circumstances can't be predicted so enjoy what you have now while moving toward the goal for the future.

First of all, I'm wondering why you use the name White_Cracker. You understand that term has nothing to do with crackers, right? It's a reference to cracking the whip in the slave days.

Having that said, Oklahoma has been pumping out star quarterbacks who have no chance in the NFL for years (Jason White, Josh Heupel). Bradford, stay in school for as long as possible to get your draft value up as high as possible. That will be the only big contract you ever receive. You can count on that.

It's not the heisman award which no one in college football every won twice. It's playing for the National Champonship and winning that before you leave is a better option and your Degree!!! Football is only 10 to 12 years, and you may need to find a job after.

He won the Heisman, and was projected to be the possible #1 pick in the NFL draft. All that he can really do back in college is get hurt. He can improve his game some, but if you're already going to be the number one pick why risk it? Plus, this gives the scouts one more year to find all the things wrong with your game. And also, he'll be a high pick next year too so he'll be on a bad team regardless of when he goes pro.

It seems to me he needs to get an education if he's repeating his sophomore year. I understand how athletics and ec's can get in the way (two majors combined with rehearsals and work forced me to be a fifth year senior at one point); but there are many players who get knocked out by injury and have gambled all on that NFL shot only to lose and have nothing to fall back on. I think it shows some intelligence on his part to place some value on education.

Besides, he'd end up going to the Lions anyway. I'm sure he doesn't want that.

He is smart in staying at OU. As a Heisman winning Quarteback he would go in the first round. Who has the first pick this year? Detroit Lions who did not wina game this season. Would you go to a losing team? I know I wouldn't.

I don't necessarily care about the second Heisman Trophy part of this answer. I think he should be given kudos for looking at the big picture and continuing to get his education and not going for the quick buck. What would happen if he got into the NFL and got injured? At least if he gets his diploma first and something happens he has that to fall back on. Or say that he has gets a career in the NFL and retires early at least he will have something that he can fall back on.

Yeah because he would sign a contract that gurenteed $20 million or more.We know he just couldn't make that last the rest of his life.So if he really wanted to still get that education he sure couldn't afford to pay for it himself.Right? The only thing he is doing now is risking everything.he gets hurt and he will get nothing!

It can only get better for him. He's an amazing QB and I think that staying in college is a great idea for him. He can get even better and then go pro. Plus he can get his degree in case he gets hurt. But I'm hoping he stays up and they can snap the bowl game losing streak. You can do it!!!! Go SOONERS! OOOOOOOOOOOO-U!

I don't know about a 2nd trophy, but he's just too young for the NFL - he'd be on the sidelines for awhile, most likely, while he learns. If he should start, those 10 year old defensive guys would make his body pretty sore pretty quick. He needs at least another year, and would be wise to complete college - if nothing else but for his body to mature more.

Hey, two young quarterbacks proved that just because you're a rookie doesn't mean you're helpless. Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco both led their teams to the playoffs in their first year under center in the NFL.

I don't really care what Bradford does, but if he's a THIRD year sophomore, he could be well into his 30s before he ever graduates. Maybe he should concentrate on his education a little more. Or maybe I just don't understand how all this college football stuff really works. Either way, the Longhorns and Colt McCoy are going to run all over him next year. So, look out! We beat you this year and we'll beat you again next year. No problem.

Going for two Heisman trophies may not even be a factor for Bradfords decision to stay at OK for another year. It could be camaraderie or maybe just another shot at the Title. Who knows why Bradford is staying . Intimidation might be a factor or another year of playing will prime him more for the big league. Either way good luck to him.

I know a education is important, but when you have the change to make a few million a year take the chance you can always go back to college. What if he was to finish his collage carrier and get heart, his NFL carrier goes down the drain.

THIRD-year sophomore!?!?! WTF!!! I may not have any interest in football, but I DO know a little something about college, and whether this is his third year in college and second year as a sophomore, or its his FOURTH year in college and THIRD year as a sophomore - WHERE ARE HIS BRAINS???

I was under the impression that the rules for college sports were the same (or tougher) as the rules for high school sports: if you can't maintain an acceptable minimum grade point average, YOU'RE OFF THE TEAM until you bring up your grades.

I say kick him the f**k out of Oklahoma U and give his spot to someone with enough brains to appreciate the education!

He's a third year sophmore athletically. He redshirted his first year so he goes to school and practices but doesn't play any games, so he's considered a freshman his second year in school when he's in his first year of elegibility. Now he's in his second year of playing time but he's been in school three years. It's not because he's dumb.
