Heavy Metal's Big Four of 2009: Which bands would you consider 2009's answer to the "Big Four"?

SodaHead Metal 2009/11/16 23:31:35
In the late 80s and early 90s, thrash metal's "Big Four" - Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, and Megadeth - were the head banging kings of the heavy metal scene, clearing a path for today's metal and demolishing everything in their way. Sooner or later, the blowtorch has to be passed, and we want to know.... Which metal bands make up today's version of the BIG FOUR?

Eh no way there is only one ''big four'' and i like it that way!!
You cant just randomly make up four bands to become a ''big four'' they have to earn it and metallica, slayer, anthrax, megadeth did that people didnt just choose them cause they liked them and they thought it was time for a change in the 4 most influencial metal bands in the world!!
And the blowtorch will never ever pass in my book!!

The original big four is still here, well I would say that Metallica have lost their place but Testament or Overkill would be more than able to take their place. But if I were picking from more recent bands I would have to say that Lamb of God, Devildriver, Machine Head, and Amon Amarth are the ones keeping the metal tradition alive. And you can't forget the metal gods like Judas Priest, who I just went and saw live in July and they are still kicking ass.

5FDP for sure not to mention Throwdown, and if Dry Kill Logic comes back can't mention other bands without mentioning them. Hatebreed but they seem to be losing their creative juices. The group is losing steam and losing it fast. I have to listen to older stuff in order to have good things to listen too. Everyone is in to that super fast music horrible singing and none of it matches. Pantera never sounded like that. Moodys bands never played like that. Stop it. Its sad this page is looking for the "Big Four" all the other genres have like "Big Ten". This genre needs some serious help.

okayy wait! the big four metallica anthrax slay and megadeath!? wheres the iron maiden and motorhead? and now if you take 21st century new metal bands Id say: Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, and I don't even know 2 others.*plus there's great metal bands out there to be discovered.* but those 2 bands are ones that have just popped up within the last 10- 15 years. now if I would of said all time I would of said Metallica. BUT this is sooo difficult now because there's sooo many genres of metal, black metal, glam metal, etc. If you watch:: Metal: A Headbanger's Journey you will see how difficult it truly is. Check it: http://www.metalhistory.com/ btw. this is only my opinion and if you would like to comment feel free to reply just remember everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Bring the Horizon, Escape the Fate, Avenged Sevenfold, and Slipknot. But, I have to agree with most of everyone else when they say the original BIG FOUR will never be outdone. Back in the early 80s I fronted a band that played a big party in So Cal with Slayer...oh, those good old days! I also had the pleasure to audition to be the singer of Megadeth from an ad in the Recycler, believe it or not. I met with Dave Mustaine and Junior and they thought it was a joke for a girl to be able to front a metal band, In the end, Dave Mustaine felt no one could relate his music better than himself...I agree. Now I have two teens that are into metal and even though I can't sing anymore I get to share my love of metal with them and we go to concerts together.

It wouldn't happen because of all the metal that is popular but sucks these days like Slipknot and Avenged Sevenfold, but my choices would be:

    Mastodon
    Black Label Society
    Evile
    and Lamb of God

Also, the Big Four was just for thrash metal which was basically just getting started back then and those four were the most prevalent of the genre. Now there's so many sub-genres of metal, none of which are really new, there really isn't a chance of new Big Four.

lamb of god is defently in there. devildriver, and that's about it in my opinion. doesn't mean that other bands aren't making good muisc but they're not full blown metal.

To all who said metal is diluted, or metal is dead: thats not even close to true.....YOU just dont like the new stuff, you see a true metal lover loves all walks of metal, new and old, i like iron maiden, and then i also like cradle of filth, i like immortal, then i also like disturbed, metals just gotten bigger, more genres, not the 3 genres you grew up with, hell i grew up with slayer metallica megadeth and maiden, and i still like new stuff.....but anywho to the big four.......metallica slayer anthrax megadeth...thats all i have to say...they are the big four...always will be, even after they perish.

There was this one time when I was in the wilderness fighting Grizzly Bears and I thought to myself "wow I am amazing" I slayed that grizzly bear with my bare hands and ate his heart raw and I owe it all to pop music. One day a mystical creature will set your free and you'll be able to flap your wings like a butterflie!
