And I absolutaly loved it. I am surprised that most people voting in this pole have not seen it. I mean it seems to be a very popular movie so I do not understand how someone could not have seen it.
I never watch normal TV channels and not one to watch something just because it is all talked about or popular. Hubby just started checking into what it is even about. . . I have no idea. . . is it any good??? What is the story line anyway????
not interested but the more people that talking about it I feel that I need to go watch it, but what so good about it from what I heard it children fighting to the death to save their lives, that's terrible.
Loved it! It may seem far fetched but in reality, we aren't far from the very same unless everyone wakes up, thinks for themselves and quits following like sheeple!
Yes but I'm still waiting for my DVD to come because I live in Canada and we don't get mail on the weekends and it didn't come today. Hopefully it comes tomorrow. But I have seen it 6 times
I would disagree that you need to have read the book to enjoy the movie, but I still can't really tell you whether or not you should because I don't know you! :P Look at the premise and see if it appeals to you and then decide from there. I will say that I found the movie very well-done, and not at all exploitative of the subject matter. It could easily have been a blood-and-guts action movie that glorified the premise, but it wasn't.
I'll agree there. If you haven't read the book then there are major holes, can be said of a lot of books made into movies. If you're very critical then some of those holes just make the movie... not good. My cousin is like that, pointed out several circumstances where it was really convenient and contrived (the biggest being the final seen in the arena with the dogs). Once explained what happened around it in the books it was understandable.
The movie version of the cornucopia was ridiculously stupid no matter how you slice it though.
I'm assuming you mean the first cornucopia bloodbath scene-- why didn't you like it? I thought it was excellent. I also thought the mutts were okay too, but then I didn't really mind that they didn't have them created from the dead tributes the way some other people do.
The cornucopia itself was pathetic. It looks like a minivan with it's rear door open. A cornucopia, when I look it up just to get a definition, is a "symbol of abundance and nourishment, commonly a large horn-shaped container overflowing with produce, flowers, nuts, other edibles, or wealth in some form."
That makes sense, that's what is described in the book. What appears in the movie is a symbol of someone dumping a starfleet shuttle craft in the middle of a field. A little box like thing stuffed with with the "wealth".
The real problem with the mutts isn't how they were made (don't care too much about that, it's a little morbid to make them from the dead imo), but that it appeared very conveniently. It's very contrived if you haven't read the book. My cousin said it looked like they were running out of time and needed to wrap the movie up, so lets throw some dogs in so they're all pushed together and have to have the final battle. Well... that is what happened, even in the book. But in the book it explains where these dogs came from, and you have the explanation that the game makers DO push them together from time to time to liven up the event. Neither of those are actually explained in the movie.
Ah, okay, I see what you mean on both counts. I did think that them wanting to push the tributes into fights and artificially create battles/"excitement" was shown earlier when they turned Katniss around with the fire, but by the time the mutts came along people might not necessarily be remembering that anymore.
I saw it at midnight at the theater and bought my 3 disk set the day the dvd was released :)
Hahah it was a big deal since I read all the books like, 3 years ago, so I've been waiting for the movie
