Fifty-seven-year-old Robert Crowley, a high-school physics teacher from Maine, outwitted and outlasted 15 other competitors to be named the winner of Survivor:Gabon, the 17th instalment of the landmark reality show Sunday night.

Crowley, who is the oldest winner in the series' history, was awarded four out of seven votes from his fellow contestants on the show's finale, narrowly beating out Susie Smith, 47, an Iowa hairdresser, who received three votes, and Jessica "Sugar'' Kiper, 29, a pin-up model from Brooklyn, NY.

The season, dubbed Earth's Last Eden, was filmed in the Wonga-Wongue Presidential Reserve in the jungles of Gabon, a sub-Saharan African country.

Tom Wopat iof "Dukes of Hazard" and currently on Broadway, is from my community. Never forgetting his Midwestern roots, he has come back often thru the years for different fundraisers, his high school reunions and sitting "with the boys" at the local cafe, catching up on the local gossip. He comes from a large, talented farm family who have been here for generations.
