Forget the fact that Justin effing Bieber somehow managed to get a CMT award last night. Even the actual country stars, like Miranda Lambert and Jennifer Nettles, looked more suited for a Hollywood movie premiere than a country music ceremony.
Jezebel reminisced about the CMT Awards' golden years, though we're not sure things were much better in 2002, when the ceremony began.
We're not sure what taffeta is, but we're sure Dolly Parton would be offended by the lack of it.

In years past, the CMT Music Awards could be counted on to provide clouds of big hair, a sea of sequins, and waves of taffeta. Unfortunately, modernization has caused country stars to tone it down a little bit.

Charles Braley 2011/06/10 17:31:39Yes+5Yes!, Yes!, Yes!, a 1,000 x's YES! Country music has gotten waaaa-ay too far into the pop music field these past few years. So much so - they don't know what - "REAL", Country Music - "SHOULD", sound like! :(

As for the question, IMO, not only the stars but the music itself has lost its luster a long time ago.
We're going to see her in D.C. this August!
I'd have expected Taylor Swift (since she's modern).
