Have Country Stars Lost Their Luster?

Forget the fact that Justin effing Bieber somehow managed to get a CMT award last night. Even the actual country stars, like Miranda Lambert and Jennifer Nettles, looked more suited for a Hollywood movie premiere than a country music ceremony.

Jezebel reminisced about the CMT Awards' golden years, though we're not sure things were much better in 2002, when the ceremony began.

In years past, the CMT Music Awards could be counted on to provide clouds of big hair, a sea of sequins, and waves of taffeta. Unfortunately, modernization has caused country stars to tone it down a little bit.

We're not sure what taffeta is, but we're sure Dolly Parton would be offended by the lack of it.

Yes!, Yes!, Yes!, a 1,000 x's YES! Country music has gotten waaaa-ay too far into the pop music field these past few years. So much so - they don't know what - "REAL", Country Music - "SHOULD", sound like! :(

Most of them never had luster. Those who did, like Dolly will never lose it because underneath the luster is more luster.

Yes and I wish the women of country would go back to wearing sequins and the guys rhinestones. That be more luster. Solid country gold.

I went to a show at Soldier Field around 3 years ago, and was blown away by the hired axes of the bands. It was Nicole Kidman's B.D. too. I was floored by the rock/metal influence in a lot of the music. I kept thinking, wow, at least those guys have a gig to make do re mi. Brutal competition. Other than that, I was happy I got the ticket as a freebie for I would never spend $110.00 for a ticket. I would just as well go to Kingston Mines for a sawbuck and listen to some blues.

Bieber got a CMT award? I have offically lost all hope for modern country music.

As for the question, IMO, not only the stars but the music itself has lost its luster a long time ago.

Country music is still alive and well. It has changed in the last few years but it still beats strong in the hearts of normal American's who love life and enjoy good MUSIC. Most of the stuff i hear on Pop or hip hop is just noise. Country is alive and well in the heart of America, yesiree!
