"Cloud Atlas," the new film from the makers of "The Matrix," is baffling critics all over the world, but it also seems to be baffling its own stars. The main cast, including Halle Berry, Tom Hanks, Hugh Grant and Susan Sarandon, all play multiple roles, and their makeup was so complex that they admit they often didn't even recognize each other.
Speaking to MTV News, Jim Sturgess, whom you may also have seen in "One Day," recalled talking to Berry while she was dressed as a "bizarre-looking Korean man with rotting teeth" and said that the moment was so "surreal" that he "had to go sit in a corner for five minutes and get my head together."
Tom Hanks added that "Hugh [Grant] rode by on a horse a couple of times. I didn't know it was him," and that "Ben Whishaw, who is in a third of the movie -- I didn't know he was in that scene until I saw the movie in Toronto." Halle Berry also had trouble recognizing Whishaw, who plays "Q" in the latest Bond movie, "Skyfall." She confessed, "I didn't recognize Ben Whishaw when he was in the hut scene... And he was in the whole scene."
