SLIDESHOW: Who's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Worthy?

Guns 'N Roses
2 of 8

Guns 'N Roses

We're still sad that Axl and Slash couldn't make it work, but they rocked the late '80s with songs like "Sweet Child O' Mine," "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Paradise City."
  1. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

    Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

She loves rock 'n' roll, but do you still put another dime in the jukebox to hear her songs?

  2. Guns 'N Roses

    Guns 'N Roses

We're still sad that Axl and Slash couldn't make it work, but they rocked the late '80s with songs like "Sweet Child O' Mine," "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Paradise City."

  3. Heart

    Heart

Has there ever been a girl group more rockin' than sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, who gave us hits like "Barracuda," "Crazy on You," "Magic Man" and "What About Love"?

  4. Donna Summer

    Donna Summer

Rock purists may take issue with the induction of disco queen Donna Summer, known for "Bad Girls," "Hot Stuff" and the infamous wedding song, "Last Dance."

  5. The Beastie Boys

    The Beastie Boys

They're a little too rough for our taste, but songs like "Brass Monkey," "Fight for Your Right," "Intergalactic," "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" and "Sabotage" get the party going.

  6. Red Hot Chili Peppers

    Red Hot Chili Peppers

The band achieved mainstream success with 1991's "Blood Sugar Sex Magik," which featured hits like "Under the Bridge," "Give It Away" and "Suck My Kiss."

  7. The Cure

    The Cure

If you're miserable, depressed or have recently been dumped, nobody understands you better than The Cure. "Lovesong" is still our favorite.

  8. The Spinners

    The Spinners

The early '70s soul group is known for hits like "Could It Be I'm Falling in Love," "I'll Be Around," "It's a Shame" and "Then Came You."

It seems only fair that Guns 'N Roses should go down in rock 'n' roll history. But disco queen Donna Summer?

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees for 2012 have been announced, and Summer is on the list -- even though her infamous wedding song "Last Dance" doesn't exactly qualify as rock in our jukebox.

The other nominees include Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Heart, The Cure, Guns 'N Roses, The Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Spinners, Laura Nyro, Donovan, War, Eric B. & Rakim, Freddie King, Rufus with Chaka Khan and The Small Faces/The Faces.

The Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Donna Summer, Laura Nyro, Donovan and War have all been nominated in the past. Wondering why your current faves aren't on the list? An act must have released its first single or album 25 years ago to qualify for induction. (It's hard to believe Guns 'N Roses has been around for 25 years!)

More than 500 voters will determine who makes the cut for the induction ceremony next year, but who gets your vote? Click through our slideshow and let us know: From crazy Axl to weepy '80s balladeer Robert Smith, who should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

The rock and roll hall of fame is a disgrace and a joke. ABBA but no Rush? Give me a break!

Heart is by far the most deserving of these nominees. I like Joan Jett, but is she more deserving than people like Pat Benatar or Stevie Nicks?? don't think so.

Anyone who says that Donna Summer is not rock and roll is a person who is ignorant of her catalogue of work. No, she's not purely rock and roll and that's why a lof of her fans love her. She's versatile. She's definitely more rock than Madonna, who is already in the Hall. Donna Summer may be becoming the Susan Lucci of these noms. I say, let her in already.

Heart is most deserving of HOF. If "Faces" was nominated, them also. Luv'd Donn Summer(so sexy, and great voice). Joan Jett, The Cure, The Spinners: certainly. Red Hot Chili Peppers, maybe? The Beastie Boys, for crissake why? sound is me puking. Guns N' Roses(only 4 Slash)

The RRHOF has fallen to the level compable to the nobel peace prize. The only performer on there that really qualifies as a true rock act is Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

Yes. There are those that come close ie Heart, but still that's processed blather that urges one to sit and listen instead of getting up and dancing. That's what Rock and Roll is about.

Freddid King was a Blues artist and as such comes close to R&R.; Still not it though.

Freddie King was one of the strongest influences of rock guitar. Without Freddie there is no Clapton, Beck, Joe Perry, Angus Young and especially no Hendrix. Saying he doesn't belong is ignorant.
That aside, the RRHOF is a worthless sham. They're ready to induct the Beastie Boys while Jethro Tull and Deep Purple have never even been nominated? Preposterous!!!!!!

Did I say that Freddie King hadn't been an influence? No. That's not what I said.

Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhears are the only two real rockers on your list. The lead singer for Guns 'N Roses screams and for me a 1 hit wonder. The Spinners, The Cure and Donna Summer are great vocalist. The Beastie Boys are not rockers, they belong in the rap category not in the music category.

I actually only clicked the first name on the list because there was no 'None Of The Above' choice. The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame is a meaningless institution. It should be more appropiately titled the Corporate Record Industry's Fame and Money and Record Sales Hall of Fame (It was the best i could come up with). Actually I have something simpler: The Pop Hall of Fame. Donna Summer, the Beastie Boys, and Guns N Roses arent "Rock N Roll."

Actually, Donna would go in The Pop Hall Of Fame, The Dance Hall Of Fame, The R&B Hall Of Fame, The Easy Listening Hall Of Fame, and The Rock Hall Of Fame, just to name a few:)

Agreed. But not the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.

Nope. In the Rock Hall too. My point being that she sings all genres of music, including rock. She didn't win a Grammy for Hot Stuff in the rock category for nothing:) Althought, that's not the only rock song in her catalogue of music. Now, whether or not she'll get in this time is debatable, indeed.
  • JohnJo5... Zunelander 2011/10/16 19:36:10
    JohnJo542kgk
You are missing my point. Im just simply pointing out how badly the word and music that is Rock N Roll has been molested by the record industry and self-proclaimed Rock N Roll superstars. It used to mean something. Now Rock N Roll means anything. You wouldnt put Gordon Lightfoot in the Hardcore Rap Hall of Fame. And I wouldnt put Guns N Roses or Donna Summer in the RNR HOF. This is the point that I am trying to get across.

Other than that. Yes. Donna deserves to be in some kind of Hall of Fame, if she isnt already.

So, you're saying only artists who are purely rock should be in the RRHOF?

    OMFG joanie joanie joanie!!!!!!
it was joan and the runaways that made it possible for women to consider a career in rock n roll.
it wasnt easy for them at that time with the amount of slack and rejection because people believed girls cant and should not perform RnR but they stuck it through and joans still doing AMAZINGLY great. she truly is the queen of rocn n roll and i think she deserves to go down in history for it.
she also does work to support PETA
shes been true to her work for more than 30 years (started when she was 15..shes 52 now)
i cant see how anyone deserves to win more than her.
to all the women and girls voting...she stood for us..now its OUR TURN.
