Green Day have had a triumphant return to the spotlight in 2012, with their three back-to-basics albums winning back critics and fans, but hanging over it all has been frontman Billy Joe Armstrong's substance abuse problems. However, today the band have announced that they are ready to hit the road in 2013.

According to MTV, the band have said in a statement that "We want to thank everyone for hanging in with us for the last few months," and "We are very excited to hit the road and see all of you again, though we regret having to cancel more shows."

Armstrong himself addressed his fans, saying "I just want to thank you all for the love and support you've shown for the past few months. Believe me, it hasn't gone unnoticed and I'm eternally grateful to have such an amazing set of friends and family. I'm getting better everyday."

Armstrong entered rehab in September, following his onstage meltdown in Las Vegas.

Do you think that Green Day are ready to tour again?

I have no idea but they obviously think they're ready. Seems too short of a trip to rehab though. Not sure if he was faking it or never recovered.

...but only they truly know, I have no idea what their life is like or what they've been through. At least they had the guts to get on stage and perform in the first place, something I'd never do in a million years....

I do think they will tour. Are they ready? No. Recovering from drug addiction takes a long time. Your fight doesn't end when you exit rehab. It takes your body a long time to adjust back into a normal chemical balance after you deprive it of it's regular drug. And you have to learn how to cope with every day stress and pain without turning to drugs to alleviate it. This comes from therapy and rehab over a long period of time. Also, the stress of touring would be high risk for relapse. If Billie Armstrong is serious about his sobriety he needs to take a year or so off for his health. Also, I am interested to hear Green Day's music once they are free from drugs. Being drug-free after years and years of abuse and walking around with a dark cloud following you, provides a sense of clarity and serenity that could do wonders for their music. We'll see! Hope he can stay sober long enough to experience it.

HELL yes!! And I'LL be ready to catch them on tour too!!

Green Day is hands down the best punk band that's still making bada$$ music to this day, and likely will continue to reign for another 10 or 20 years.

    March on, beautiful souls!! ♥'

Being experienced musicians AND grown men, I do believe these three are suitable to get up and go. Billie Joe's meltdown was embarassing, to say the least, but he WAS under the influence lf alcohol...if he truly has learned from his mistake, then I think we should quit giving him a hard time. Everyone screws up every now and then, right? ...other than that, I've been a huge fan of Green Day for quite some time, so I'd be thrilled to see them up and moving again. After all, I have yet to see them in concert.
