'Glee' Prepares for Cory Monteith Tribute Episode: Saddest TV Tribute?
It's hard to say goodbye, but "Glee" has got to do it. The FOX show's tribute episode for Cory Monteith, who played Finn Hudson on the show, will air this Thursday. Monteith was also honored at this year's Emmys.
Whitney Houston died just days before the 2013 Grammy Awards, of accidental drowning and an overdose. The Grammys scrambled, but managed to include her in its tribute for the singer's huge contribution to music.
Fans were heartbroken when they first heard news that the King of Pop was dead. MJ died due to propofol -- a very powerful sedative. Tributes for the pop icon include the Grammys, the BET Awards and many more.
Amy Winehouse had long suffered substance abuse issues and ultimately died of alcohol intoxication. At the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, Bruno Mars honored the late singer with a flawless performance of "Valerie."
Heath Ledger died of an accidental "lethal drug combination" in his New York apartment in 2008. The actor, who famously played the Joker in "The Dark Knight," was honored at the MTV Movie Awards later that year.
Like Monteith, James Gandolfini was also honored at the Emmy Awards this year by "Sopranos" co-star Edie Falco. Gandolfini, who famously played Tony Soprano, died of a heart attack while traveling in Italy.
"Glee" executive produce Ryan Murphy admitted that it was incredibly hard to shoot the tribute episode for Cory, who died of a drug overdose earlier this year at the ripe age of 31.
"I've never seen a crew where you can't continue shooting because they left the room sobbing," Murphy said. Still, the show must go on and the cast and crew got through the heartbreaking episode, which will be called "The Quarterback."
The tribute episode is sure to incite tears among "Glee" fans everywhere. But those heartbroken by Cory Monteith's untimely death aren't the only ones mourning. Fans of Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and other stars who suddenly passed have also gone through a tough time.
