Today being Star Trek's 46th anniversary, we all need to thank Gene for creating this series. I believe the latter entries didn't have the same direction Gene would've liked and the movies went mostly the wrong direction altogether.

So, what are you're thoughts on this?

I think all of the Star Trek series were great. The first one was such a ground breaker. They are by far my favorite sci fi's.

I didn't realize it was their Anniversary until I went to Google yesterday.

I saw Gene Roddenberry at a Star Trek Convention in the 70's with my Father.
We're Both Star Trek fans from way Back.

For its time, Star Trek was groundbreaking in so many ways. I think Next Generation measured up, since Gene designed that series too, but apart from DS9 I agree the later series weren't true to his vision.
