Today being Star Trek's 46th anniversary, we all need to thank Gene for creating this series. I believe the latter entries didn't have the same direction Gene would've liked and the movies went mostly the wrong direction altogether.
So, what are you're thoughts on this?

Balance of Terror and Enterprise Incident are my two favorite Star Trek TOS episodes, although there are many great episodes like Space Seed, Journey to Babel, Mirror Mirror, Doomsday Machine, Let This Be Your Last Battlefield, and The Savage Curtain.
After 46 years, Star Trek: The Next Generation is the only show that has come close to the amazing Star Trek TOS series.
This is James T. Kirk; not the moronic pussy who showed up in the reboot.
It got preachy at times and I definitely do not buy into humanism, but the show explored many aspects of humanity: emotion, philosophy, faith, religion, war, peace, and did so masterfully. My favorite series was actually Deep Space Nine, but I love them all.
Star Trek also examined concepts like war (people selected for death to avoid the destructiveness), overpopulation (the result of wiping out disease), and nonintervention (the ever-present Federation directive).
:)
I don't know if it is still running since the Hilton in Las Vegas has changed hands, but we went on "Star Trek, the experience" a few years ago. It is awe inspiring walking through the History hall.
