ATLANTA - Grammy-winning rapper T.I. was arrested Saturday — just hours before he was to perform at the BET Hip-Hop Awards — in a parking lot where federal officials said he planned to pick up machine guns and silencers his bodyguard bought for him.

T.I., born Clifford Harris, is charged with possession of unregistered machine guns and silencers, as well as possession of firearms by a convicted felon. Harris was in federal custody, said U.S. attorney’s office spokesman Patrick Crosby, who would not disclose his location.

Dude, he is rich! It costs $200 for the tax stamp (or license for the uninitiated) for a machine gun. So a real M16 rifle costs about 30k for the rifle and then only 200 bucks to make it legal. He is going to do 10 years in the pen for being cheap. What a looser. Now if his state doesn't let him have that stuff then buy a house in AZ or Texas and make that your 'official' legal residence.

I can't believe someone thinks that they should have waited until he got to do whatever nonsense he wanted to do before getting arrested. So if I rob a gas station at gun point I should get to spend the money before I have to face the music. Give me a break.

I used that example because that will get you about 10 years.

Why in the world would you wait. Convicted felons that are committing new crimes don't need to do TV shows before they go to jail.

I don't give a damn who he is or what he was supposed to be doing. he should have thought about that before he broke the law. I say arrest as soon as possible.

I don't know who T.I. is and don't listen to hip-hop music. I believe that if he had been a white entertainer the police would have waited until after the artist performed to arrest him (however, with a crime such as this I can't be sure of that). I do believe that anyone carrying around machine guns and silencers is planning to do something violent--they are not going deer hunting!! Who knows, maybe he was planning to do something at the awards. Waiting to arrest him later might have cost someone their life! It was probably best that he was arrested when he was. Stupid to have had these guns and silencers in the first place being a convicted felon. Stupid people and guns are a dangerous mix. Why wait till after the show. Lock him up!

It is very ignorant to think that anyone who has machine guns and silencers is going to commit a crime. I am not just saying that to be rude you just don't know machine gun and suppressor laws and applications. THEY ARE LEGAL!!! and take nothing to be approved for if you can buy a cheap pistol then you can buy a silencer and machine gun. Just fill out a different form and you got it.

TI is a moron for just not following the law. There is even a legal way for Felons to own them. I mean the law is more than fair.

Everything else is on the money though stupid people should not have guns. But who gets to judge who is stupid and who isn't? You? Me? Go to your local gun club and have them put a suppressor on a full auto H&K G36 and you will be an addict just like me.

Why should the authorities have waited? Would they have waited till I picked up my kid from school? He is just someone breaking the law and making terrible music ( that in it's self should be enough to arrest him). He is not above the law!

Why should law enforcement wait till he performed, did he break the law before or after the Hip Hop Awards?

According to the news here in Atlanta last night, the reason they arrested him when they did, is that they had just been given the information that the buying of the weapons took place. They weren't concerned with his fame, but with the safety of everyone. When they raided his house, they found a bunch more weapons and loads of ammunition. I guess he got what he deserved.

Why let a little thing like gun laws get in the way of the Hip Hop Awards?

I don't know much about him...but if he has a felony record as it says above. I believe he knew what the circumstances would be...now he's got to figure out a way to pay the price with dignity.

Yes, they should have waited, and even waited until he was finished using the weapon for whatever event he bought it for.

No, the authorities should have arrested him when they did... when T. I. (who I like) committed the crime. Heck, who knows waiting until after the BET Awards could have been too late and the charges go from possession of unregistered machine guns and silencers, as well as possession of firearms by a convicted felon to murder.

My question is... what the heck was T. I. thinking? He ought to know that Atlanta's cops ain't no joke, just ask Bobby Brown.
