****SPOILER ALERT ****

"Game of Thrones" just may be the gutsiest show on TV (perhaps ever?) after Sunday’s shocker! Some fans are in a frenzy and others devastated after watching the shocking twist.

Spoiler alert from Sunday’s episode… “The only reason we watched [Game of Thrones] was for Sean Bean.

But HBO defended their choice:

Thrones is not just about the promise you’re going to see one of your favorite actors week in and week out. The star is the story.

But, TV audiences are not the same as book fans. There are plenty of viewers the saga may not get back.

I think they absolutely need to stay true to the book.

Lord Stark is not the only reason I watch Game of Thrones. I was overjoyed when Tyrion got knocked out by the mace, therefore, did not have to go into battle. The Imp is one of my favorite characters.

I would like to see Daenerys Targaryen (Drogo) become queen of the 7 kingdoms. Because, I have a feeling that Kahal is going to die from his wound. Certainly hope their baby makes it.

I'm staying tuned hoping ALL the Lannister's (except Tyrion) are eventually banned outside the wall.

I probably wouldn't watch it if they strayed too far from the books.

HBO are incredibly faithful to the books and should continue to be, the show is perfect. Ned's death is nothing compared to what happens later in the series anyway. Sean Bean is a good actor and definitely helped to attract people to the series, but the series is more than strong enough to continue without him. The story only gets better from here.

The Game of Thrones is not for honorable men like Ned.

I have red 4 books from Martin's saga: Ed Stark was my favorite character, but after his murder, I've passed my affection to Arya. Yes, they werer right to stay true to the book. If he "lived" that would not be the same story.

You have to stay true to the books.. though I was sad to see that happen. :(

Also- there are so many other likable characters.. I doubt many people are going to just stop watching..

That's scene was very true to the book, and so is the overall show for the most part. This series is so awesome. Good guys die, bad guys die, no one is safe! The books after Game of Thrones are the same, they make you afraid to turn the next page because your favorite character might be gone.

Great move. Now we know that anything goes in the series. The worst thing for me is a predictable show. From what I have seen so far, it is not inconceivable that someone puts the guy's head back on and he attacks the new king in zombie form.

To many times a made for tv movie is changed from the way it is in the book. I think they made a smart move by keeping it true to the book. I have followed MArtin's story since it first appeared and cant wait to get my hands on the new book.

No doubt I will enjoy the books. There's nothing better than the details in a good book and one's own imagination. I'm sure there's going to be a lot more unexpected twists and turns. Great story, and I'll take you up on your recommendation. Thanks.

You think so? I know that is the way of the Dothraki people, but I'm just hoping if Kahal dies she and her baby will be okay. I know this is Game of Thrones and not Sleeping Beauty, so anything unexpected could/will happen.

I´ve read the books and I´m watching the serie, and both are exceptional. Look "True Blood" case: each episode is more different than the novels (better, to me), but both are really good. It´s a great error to compare novel-movie: each one has different technicals, different times, different ways of expression,...Read the novel and watch the movie forgetting the other and you enjoying twice.

I have not read the book, so I don't know what to look for. I just enjoy the show. It is one of the best on TV even if it is only an hour long. Needs to be longer!

Yeah of course it was a good move. They are following the storyline epically. Ned Stark was never meant to be a main character and this is one of the things that sets this story apart from others. It takes risks, it constantly juggles who the star of the moment is and it keeps you guessing as to who will bite the bullet next and how. For anyone who would stop watching because of Ned's death I say only this: You are missing so much good story its not even funny but it is your loss.

I love both the books and the TV show and I'm also a huge fan of Sean Bean, but I'm not going to stop watching such an awesome show just because he's gone. I'm glad they're staying true to the book. xD

ALWAYS STAY TRUE TO THE BOOK. Deviation is what makes so many book-to-movie conversions so awful.

I haven't read the book , but, the show has had me hooked, something I haven't experienced in a long time as I am not much of a TV watcher.

I thought Sunday's episode was bold and makes me want to continue watching even more...

You could see it coming but a bit of a surprise they actually followed through on it. He deserved it for thinking a bit of paper signed by a dead king was going to trump the she witch's maneuvering.

It is an interesting world where the men are constantly impaling something.

I'm hooked and realizing they can not make enough headway in one more episode. ;-(

When the SyFy network took Harry Dresden of the Dresden Files and reworked it they lasted 12 episodes.

Jim Butcher, author of the series knows what fans want, there are 14 books.

If they had strayed from the book it would be akin to rewriting Harry Potter, cause the execs KNOW better.
