Tilda Swinton's "garbage bag"

Tilda Swinton's "garbage bag"

Swinton won in 2008 for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for "Michael Clayton," but she showed up wearing what looked like a black trash bag.
  1. Charlize Theron's fake tan

    Charlize Theron's fake tan

In 2004, Theron won the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for "Monster" -- but most of us were totally distracted by her fake-baked tan.

  2. Bjork's swan dress

    Bjork's swan dress

The kooky Icelandic singer wore what was unquestionably the strangest Oscar dress of all time when she performed her nominated song "I've Seen It All" in 2001.

  3. Celine Dion's white suit

    Celine Dion's white suit

Dion wore a backward white Dior suit and matching hat to the 1999 Oscars, and lived to regret it.

  5. Adrien Brody kisses Halle Berry

    Adrien Brody kisses Halle Berry

Brody was so excited when he won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role for "The Pianist" that he planted one right on Halle Berry. Luckily, she was a good sport.

  6. Roberto Benigni goes crazy

    Roberto Benigni goes crazy

Benigni was so excited to win in 1999 for "Life Is Beautiful" that he stood on the backs of the seats in front of him and applauded the audience.

  7. Uma Thurman's belt

    Uma Thurman's belt

In 2004, Thurman arrived at the 76th Annual Academy Awards wearing this strange blue belt over a dress that suggested a backpack.

  8. Julia Roberts' weird laugh

    Julia Roberts' weird laugh

Roberts pulled off one of the most memorable Oscar looks of all time when she accepted her award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for "Erin Brockovich" in 2001 … but her laugh was pretty ridiculous.

  9. David Letterman: "Uma ... Oprah"

    David Letterman: "Uma ... Oprah"

When people think of bad Oscar hosts, they think of Letterman’s "Oprah, Uma" routine in 1995. And that wasn’t the only joke that fell flat.

Ah, the Oscars are this Sunday. Time for glitz, glamour and some seriously bad faux pas. From Charlize Theron's fake-baked glow at the 2004 Academy Awards to Bjork's bizarre swan dress in 2001 to Julia Roberts maniacal Oscar acceptance laugh, sometimes stars mean well, but just get it wrong somehow.

And then there's the fashion. From Tilda Swinton's "garbage bag" dress in 2008 to Celine Dion's backward suit and cowboy hat in 1999 to Uma Thurman's karate kid look in 2004, there's no telling what the stars are going to wear.

Plus, if they win, they tend to go a little crazy. Who can forget when Robert Benigni leapt through the audience, or when Adrien Brody planted one on Halle Berry? From Charlize's tan to David Letterman's "Uma ... Oprah" gaffe, click through our slideshow and let us know: Who made the biggest Oscar faux pas?

I think I remember this one because I was betting on the movies I thought would win, but didn't. Yeah, it sucked, alright. I'm kind of glad he doesn't make any appearances at the Oscars.

I just picked one . . . . and I got it right . . .but . . . . who cares about this crap but the ultra-superficial morons who don't have lives of their own and have to live them vicariously through these amoral-celebrity types. The fact that Charlize Theron didn't get an even hue on her tan hardly seems worth lowering one's self to the role of critic.

Julia gets my vote - hated her laugh and her long-winded speach, but most of all...hated the fact that she was extremely rude to the highly respected Bill Conte (Musical Director/Conductor), when she called him "Stick Man" for trying to ease her off stage by softly starting the music....she is obnoxious.

When they go off prompter and try to ad lib, it's always entertaining. Live TV means never having to say you're sorry. One take and that's it. BTW I don't care about Charlize Theron's fake tan or the dress someone wore, they're remarkable actors and only human.

Charlize Theron has the figure of a used pencil and the talent of a glass of phlegm. The fact that she was even allowed in the building is an insult to the planet. Seeing her standing there painted orange, in a sack dress, holding that golden figurine makes me just cringe, because I know that the next plague after that is locusts.

I remember Roberto Benigni going crazy at the Oscars, and it wasn't a faux pas at all. It was delightful and refreshing, as is Robert Benigni. I also remember Bjork's swan dress and it was truly horrid, so it got my vote. The other ones in between those two.... I never even noticed them.. Generally, what they wear is not significant to me, but one could hardly ignore the swan dress could one? LOL

Julia Roberts' laugh was genuine and expressed a moment of being overjoyed. I think it was refreshing. I LOVED David Letterman's awkward introduction. I think it was hysterical to see how uptight all those people can be. Roberto was a little over the top, but I think hew wasn't expecting to win and was amazed. I am not a fan of Celine, but really, it wasn't THAT bad. Tilda. Sorry, try again. Not sure WHAT Uma was thinking in that dress @ all, but Bjork takes the cake. And Adrian Brody? Well, who could really blame him?

It's Hollywood. We expect them to be a bit bizarre and outlandish. Who really cares ? What does it matter?

Of bigger concern is the tendency by many Americans who cannot (or will not) think for themselves to blindly follow celebs' political views. This is how we get someone like Obama in the White House.

I don't know that people actually vote according to the views of actors and singers. They raise awareness of some issues because the have a platform, but voting for president because they do? I don't think they are that big of an influence.

These people, Bjork, Tilda Swinton, Roberto Benigni, Celine Dion, they are artistic and they have their own view on fashion and life in general. They have to be a little out of any box to win an Oscar and that's what they are.

You left out some of the better ones though, how about Marlon Brando sending the fake Indian to decline the Best Actor award, Vanessa Redgrave spouting support for Palestine during her acceptance speech and of course, the streaker who came out during David Niven's speech, now those were something else! sacheen littlefeather vanessa redgrave oscars speech streaker at oscars

I remember back in the 70s the Oscars were a major drag, none of the big winners even showed up and the movies really sucked! The majority of the movies still stink on ice, however, the show got more entertaining. I mean, all these damn message movies, most of which no one short of the Acadamy goes to see. I have not seen one of the nominated movies this year, none of them interest me. Also, they need to leave their politics at home for once. I'm pretty moderate in my politics and usually agree with them, however, this is not the place to air them and it just pisses everyone off.
