Do we have a new Pee-Wee Herman on our hands? Actor Fred Willard, known for his roles on "Modern Family," "Everybody Loves Raymond" and movies like "Best in Show" and "Anchorman," has been arrested on suspicion of committing a lewd act at a Hollywood adult theater, The Associated Press reports. Wait for the :15 mark in the video below for more of the cringe-worthy details.

The 72-year-old actor was booked and released at the Hollywood police station on suspicion of committing a lewd act in public, the AP reports. Police say they caught the married actor with his pants down -- literally, TMZ reports. You probably don't want to know what else they allegedly saw him doing. We actually feel a little sorry for Fred Willlard. He was in an "adult" theater after all ... and he's 72 years old. He must be totally mortified. Do you think people put celebrities up on an unrealistically high pedestal?

How can anyone vote no to this?

And...it is okay to watch porn in an adult theater but illegal to jack off?

Sad to say, society looks upon celebrities as being something different than normal people. Makes no sense as they are still just human beings and put their pants on one leg at a time, etc. Always been one of my biggest beefs is how they are treated, both with regards to being put on a pedestal and being hunted and not allowed to have any privacy. We aren't hearing/reading about the ... probably.. 100 or so others that have been arrested in an adult theater doing whatever throughout the country this week. Why? Because their names are John Doe to us and as such, don't mean a thing. They go to court, get embarrassed, pay their fine and get on with their lives. Fred Willard? He'll be lucky if he can find a commercial to shoot anytime before he dies now.

In a dark theater watching a dirty movie. What Paparazzi was stalking him? Is it anyone's business what one does in a dark theater that depicts people having sex? What does one expect?????? If Peewee wants to wants to go to a dirty movie and yank off, thats his business aslong as he gets none on the floor and seat.

Personally, NO I don't . Most of the Hollywood crowd are moral reprobates whom the average everyday people wouldn't associate with them if not for their "celebrity status".

I just think its just plain wrong whether your a celebrity or not,to have found out about such a thing, won't be good for him. It's not like he spilled food on himself, this was a lewd act-everyone has to behave-the question on hand is "DO WE EXPECT CELEBRITIES TO BE DECENT/MORALLY PUBLICLY APPROPRIATE?YES!BECAUSE EXPECTING TO BE DECENT IS A NO BRAINER!GOOD THING HE ISN'T A TEEN HEARTTHROB STARTING OUT!

Because Americans need rich idols. Americans are stupid and they think the rich lead more interesting lives so they like to read about or see celebrities.

Just kiddding, but sometimes no, because they themself put themself on Pedestal we just follow the glamor.
It's odd how many people don't read the question, the statement is about Fred Willard, But the question is in general do we put Celebrities on Pedestal? (thats All included), People are isolating to Mr. Willard alone. from some of the commits I have read.

If his actions were a "crime" where is the injured party??

Everyone masterbates. Ignoring that fact doesn't make it go away. Now maybe it was poor judgement to do so in a public theater, but honestly, don't cops have "real" criminals to go after instead of a harassing an old man? I'm assuming it is against the theater rules so kick him out instead. That way the cops don't look like dicks, he can (maybe) execute better judgement in the future, and we all can get on with our lives instead of gossiping over some person.

Oh.....and if he was doing something like that in a public place, I doubt very much that he was "mortified".
Seventy-two years old....haven't you ever heard of a "dirty old man"? I think he fits the bill!!!

Unfortunately many people do put celebrities on a pedestal. I don't. I've never been one to be impressed by them and have never understood the big deal of getting an autograph. They are just people. However, many of them place themselves on a pedestal also by speaking out on social issues and thinking we should listen to them because of who they are. Works both ways.
Not sure what the premise behind an Adult Theater is, but the thought of a lot of human "stuff" (for lack of a better word) being spread all over the seats would be enough to keep me from ever going in there. ewww
I agree with the people that said if that's what he wanted to do, he should have just rented some videos and watched them in the privacy of his own home.

I don't understand why Pee-Wee Herman and Fred Willard were arrested in the first place. I would have just kicked them out of my theater. Besides, I've only visited adult theaters a few times in my entire life, and I've had the urge many times to satisfy myself. What is the harm anyways, especially if they are discret about it...

I agree totally. What I was TRYING to say is that he wasn't masterbating at a rated G or PG movie where there will be children or family there. He's at a RATED XXX movie theater that is probably NOT crowded and DARK. I wouldn't masterbate in public, but as the owner of such an establishment, I would have just asked him to leave!!!!

Finally, when I was much younger and dating, I did things in my car that I wouldn't want others to see.

I guess for Mr. Willard, he got caught up in the HEAT of the MOMENT. I don't think he's a BAD person. He just made a VERY bad choice in judgement. Do something like that in the privacy of your home...

The tabloids do a lot to place the spotlight on celebrities. They sell their product. Like doe it really matter to you if so and so will marry/divorce what’s there name anyway? No. It is gossip and we love gossip. We all know that gossiping is wrong, but it makes things interesting when you see someone in, what we conserved to be, in worse shape than we are. That is why “soap operas” have been so popular for over 70 years.

.. the Kardashian bunch, I rest my case. Putting them, Fred Willard, and many other celebs on pedestal instead of giving them cement overshoes and chucking them into the ocean......woops, that would be high crime against the environment - ah, screw the fish.

I think it's pretty pathetic that there seems to be such a huge number of empty-heads who are preoccupied with the doings of entertainers. It's the aspect of living vicariously, ignoring one's own real life, that I find most off-putting about this attitude.

Most celebrities are on a pedestal in their own minds and concider themselves above the laws and morals of real people,
The only people on a higher mental pedestal are the politicians who like Bloomberg and Obama think they are above it all
