Frances Bean Cobain Is Engaged at 19: Too Young?

Frances Bean Cobain, the 19-year-old daughter of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, has gone from obscure offspring to certified celeb in just a few short months. In August, BeanCo posed for a series of modeling shots and The New York Times called it "one of the most anticipated comings of age in recent pop cultural history."

But that coming of age is soon to be followed by a very adult decision: She's gettin' hitched. Just a couple of months after her 19th birthday, the burgeoning media starlette has announced she's engaged to Isaiah Silva, guitarist and singer in a band called The Rambles. Reports also claim that Frances Bean Cobain and her fiance have even moved in together.

beanco

We're not sure how old he is, but he looks to be in his early 20s. A few sources already have suggested Silva looks a little bit like Kurt. We don't recall Kurt wearing deep v's very often, either, but the long hair and plaid is definitely reminiscent.

The news was officially announced over the couples' respective Facebook pages when they both changed their relationship status to "engaged." How's that for a 21st century announcement? She later wrote, "Getting to spend the rest of my life loving my best friend makes me the luckiest woman in the world." In Touch confirmed the news with a close friend who said, "Yes, she’s engaged and they moved in together in a big house near Runyon Canyon ... They are so happy!"

If she's old enough to die for her country in the armed services then she is certainly old enough to love and marry.

If they have the income, there is nothing wrong with getting married at 19. My mom married at 19 in WWII, to my 21 yr old soldier dad. But, I didn't settle down until age 24.

The only thing I would worry about is having enough money. It looks like they have that covered.

Well I'd say that if she's sure and absolutely NOTHING can change her mind, and even if he went through some terrible accident and it left him absolutely deformed and if she still wants to then that's her decision. I hope her the best for her future with her fiance and a happy life that her father would want her to have.

When is the right age? Some people mature so much faster than others! My spouse and I got married when I was right out of high school! I was 18- he was 19. We bought a house at 19&20, decided to have a baby 4 years later. We have now been married for over 13 years and are getting ready to have baby number 3 in a month. But we are done after this one. Lol I wish them the best! ;)

Take it from an old married ex- sure, she can get married, she's legal, make her own decisions, people have been married at 14, blah blah blah, and yadda yadda yadda- these days, in this society, when 20 is the new 10, she is too young. People got married for completely different reasons back when they were getting married at 14. She should celebrate her youth while she has it, not tie herself down to one man right now, or she just might regret it later.

I love Kurt. LOVE Nirvana but 19 is too young. If you are really serious you can tell each other to wait. THAT is the mature thing to do - let yourselves grow as one before being a part of two.

Its not age,its maturity. If you are mature enough and ready then go ahead and get married. There are people in their 50s and 60s that have never been married because they aren't ready to commit.

I wish there was an "it depends option."

I became a father at 19 and married my ex wife at 21. Seven months later we were divorced. However that is my example and there are plenty of examples of teens marrying and staying together till death do they part or at least till their children grow up and move out of the house. Today I am almost 40 years old and I have a close relationship with my only child, my son. We live far apart but talk on the phone often.

Divorce is not an age specific thing and many times maturity is not as well. If two people have truly taken the time to get to know one another and they feel they are ready to marry it should not matter how old they are as long as it is a legal age.

Personally myself if I had to do it over again I would have waited but that is because I had a lot of growing up to do. My ex wife did as well. I think couples who plan to marry but have never lived together or who are dealing with some issues before they are set to marry should seek out a marriage counselor. Truthfully, despite the cheating due to my ex wife's youth I always felt I may have been able to save our marriage with counseling.

In the end though as long as two people are legally able to marry there is no way in which we can decide for THEM if they are too young. It...

In the end though as long as two people are legally able to marry there is no way in which we can decide for THEM if they are too young. It boils down to the people in their lives and their own feelings or readiness and maturity. My son is 20 years old and married with two daughters. He and his family seem to be doing well. My son at times ask for advice and I help him the best that I can. Still he knows that at the end of the day he has to be a man and make up his own mind. Should he and my daughter in law divorce I know it will not be because of their age. It will be because as two consenting adults in love they could not work things out. Divorce as I said before is not age specific just as I said maturity is not age specific. I will leave it at that.

If I'm not mistaken, Frances Bean Cobain became an emancipated minor when she was just 17, so she's been on her own now for a couple of years. This young lady has had to grow up fast anyway, what with having had famous parents -- a heroin-addicted father who blew his head off with a shotgun at age 27, and a skanky junkie for a mother -- who weren't really there to raise or adequately care for her. Besides, 19 isn't necessarily too young to contemplate marriage. Chronological age has nothing to do with emotional IQ. Frances Bean seems to be a mature young adult, and if she wants to get engaged, then that's her business. This girl deserves to have some sort of decent, normal existence, especially after all the ordeals she's faced in her young life. I send her and her fiance my best wishes. [Her boyfriend looks NOTHING like Kurt Cobain. To say he does is nothing more than cheap pandering to the public to cause needless scandal about Frances Bean having "daddy issues."]

The only strange thing is our very recent social aberration where perfectly healthy people do not get married until their 30s and older.

For most of our 5,000 years of human civilization - 19 was just about exactly when you were married and already starting a family. This was 'perfectly normal' just a generation or two ago.

Yes, shes way too young, but see.......this is part of the cool Cobain reality. She needs to endure about 5 more marriages, three kids by different fathers and a few more tattoo's.
    That should do it.
