Arian Foster revealed today that he had an MRI of a hamstring injury. This potentially devastating injury to a franchise player has huge financial impact on the league, gamblers and fantasy football players.
Injuries to key players can make/break a game or even an entire season. Arian Foster ran for 10 zillion yards last season and gave fantasy players lots of points and wins. Many fantasy leagues play for money. So they could have wasted a #1 draft pick an injured Arian Foster for the 2011 season without knowing of an injury.
Sportsbooks and gamblers also need to know this information to make good bets. Foster's injury could have added up to millions of dollars in bad bets made by people.
Foster, the Texans and the NFL kept all these people 'in the dark' by not disclosing it.
Foster tweeted an update about his injury: "If I had a "significant injury" why post it? I'll be fine, it was jus meant to make fun of the whole situation. Humor is lost nowadays."
Humor? Wall Street investors would sue anyone who joked about the "health" of a company in which they invested.
Maybe the NFL or Texans didn't know. Maybe Foster withheld the information from everyone -- his doctor cannot disclose the injury because of HIPPA privacy laws. Some people argue that need to change all that for public figures like Foster and Steve Jobs, who had to resign from Apple because of his poor health.
I side with the player and the team. They may want privacy for personal or strategic reason. Gamblers should "bake in" the potential for injury and secrecy. If both sides hide injuries then it evens out. The NFL doesn't have a fiduciary responsbility to gamblers and fantasy players like a publicly traded company.

Arian Foster reveals hamstring MRI
The Texans — not to mention fantasy owners everywhere — are crossing their fingers that Arian Foster’s hamstring injury will heal in time for the 1,600-yard back to be ready for Week 1 against the Colts. Foster tweeted Wednesday what he said was an image of an MRI he had on the hamstring.

Where would it stop? first, it would be limited to injures occurred on the field, then a player does some stupid dance move at a club and people are calling for all injures to be released. What about test results? is it the public's business that #99 on team whatever got a positive VD result back? Once a line as been crossed, it can't be undone.
The other day during a black out of a PRESEASON game between two Florida teams,. the local sports bar filled up with families and young people watching UFC. UFC is an aggressively marketed, well presented and up coming sports brand. The NFL is more for fat older guys.
They play for entertainment, so the fans will decide.
I thought it was about the game. :)
