Fiona Apple has been a bad, bad girl. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, 35, was arrested for hashish possession at a West Texas Border Patrol checkpoint, according to the Associated Press.

Apple "had a little tiny amount of pot and hash," sheriff's office spokesman Rusty Fleming told the AP, explaining that she spent Wednesday night in jail and was released Thursday after posting bail.

Police found about four grams of marijuana and about four grams of a substance that tested positive for hashish on the singer's tour bus, and she admitted the drugs were hers, the sheriff's office said in a press release.

Marijuana possession in small amounts is a misdemeanor, but the Texas Controlled Substance Act says possession of hashish -- a drug prepared with the resin of the marijuana plant -- in any quantity is a felony, according to the AP. Do you think being arrested for pot -- or hash -- is a big deal? Or is it all a big deal over nothing?

That's such idiotic nonsense. Honestly, decriminalize it now if you don't want to legalize it. People shouldn't have a criminal record for smoking a damn plant. Harms no one whatsoever and is none of the government's business.

In Texas, possession of Hashish, no matter the quantity, is a Felony. Guess who doesn't need her passport anymore...

    Effects of Hashish Use
    http://www.narconon.org/drug-...
Hashish is composed of the compressed resins from the cannabis plant. Hashish can either be extracted from the plant through chemical processes or mechanical ones that strip the resin from the outside of the marijuana buds. Hashish is sold in compressed blocks, balls or bricks, and by the time they reach the consumer, may be small squares wrapped in aluminum foil.
Perhaps because of the legalization of marijuana for medical purposes in more than a dozen states in the US, cannabis has a reputation of being fairly harmless. Of course, those in favor of legalization of this drug do not mention the more damaging effects of the drug.
The most well-known effect of hashish use is the same euphoric, drowsy, sedated effect of cannabis. But along with this comes a number other effects:
Distortions of time and space. Because a person may not realize how much time has passed or how fast they are traveling, driving a car is quite dangerous. Cannabis is the most common drug found in the bodies of drivers who die in accidents, sometimes in combination with other drugs or alcohol.

Distortions of time and space. Because a person may not realize how much time has passed or how fast they are traveling, driving a car is quite dangerous. Cannabis is the most common drug found in the bodies of drivers who die in accidents, sometimes in combination with other drugs or alcohol.
These distortions also make it difficult to play sports, meaning that anyone who is athletic may not maintain their prior level of accomplishment if they start smoking hashish.
An unmotivated, "I don't care" attitude is common among hashish smokers. This attitude can lead a person to give up activities and interests that were important for him or her before, such as a young person giving up a college education or a career.
The reduced ability to understand what is read or heard and therefore learn, solve problems or concentrate that is common to hashish smokers would impair anyone's ability to complete an education.

Hashish is addictive, as is cannabis. Addiction shows up as time and energy spent acquiring and using the drug or recovering from its use despite damage being done to one's goals, relationships, legal status, health, finances or life in general.
Hashish can be quite psychologically addictive as well as physically. By that is meant a person is dependent on the way it makes them feel. He or she uses it to relieve stress or eliminate the need to deal with real life problems. Instead, they can just indulge in the euphoria, drowsiness and relaxation.
    Hashish and Pregnancy

Women who were chronic hashish users during pregnancy have a higher than normal number of stillborn births and early termination of their pregnancies. A higher number of babies of cannabis-using women die in the first few days of life, while the causes of this effect are not yet known.
Among test animals given tetrahydrocannabinol (THC - the intoxicating ingredient of cannabis) there were more malformations of the brain, spinal cord, liver and legs than among other animals not given the drug. In some other tests, there were more gross birth defects and fetal deaths.
It is now also beginning to look like cannabis use by either parent leads to specific birth defects of the baby's hands or feet. Cannabis-using parents also have underweight babies more frequently.
Side Effects of Cannabis or Hashish Use

In the case of hashish, undesirable side effects include:
    Disorientation
    Impaired learning
    Fluctuating emotions
Dulling of attention despite the person feeling that he or she has special insight
    Psychotic episodes
    Fatigue
    Paranoia
    Reduced coordination
Lung damage including bronchitis, coughing and congestion from smoking
See also: Signs and symptoms of Hashish Use
If hashish users consume too much of the drug, they can suffer from anxiety or panic, paranoia, heavy sedation resulting in an inability to move, confusion and unpleasant distortions in their perceptions of their own bodies.
Drug Rehabilitation Can Put Hashish Users on the Road to a Brighter Future

It is possible to learn to enjoy a sober, productive life again after addiction to hashish. The Narconon drug and alcohol rehabilitation program with centers located on six continents has been helping those who are addicted recover their sobriety for more than forty-five years. The Narconon program has eight phases of recovery, from helping repair the damage that is created by addiction, to restoring the personal integrity that is given up when a person lives an addictive lifestyle, to detoxifying the person's body.
In the Narconon New Life Detoxification Program, one phase of the overall recovery program, each person spends time a a low-heat sauna, exercises moderately each day and consumes a strict regimen of nutritional supplements. This combination helps the body flush out the old drug toxins that are left behind in the fatty tissue. As the drug residues are washed out, the person can once again begin to feel like they used to before they were addicted
If you care for someone who is trapped in using hashish, find out how Narconon can help. Call 1-800-775-8750 for all the details.

Gee Narcotics anonymous is a government website. How interesting. And all the time that I worked with them when I was a young man. They never gave anyone's info to anyone, not even government agencies. These are people who work with drug addicted people all the time as I did. I also worked with alcoholics who were addicted. I guess you never even clicked on this link. http://www.narconon.org/drug-...

Then you should well know that the "addiction" was a problem with users who had deep seated psychological problems with addictive personality disorder, that was not caused by hashish. Hashish only "aggravated" the pre-existing psychological problem. It just boils down to some can "handle" getting high and some go "bonkers". Just like with alcohol. Some get tipsy, some get drunk and some can't have so much as a drop in their system or they can commit murder and, have no recollection of the act the following day. The word for the day boys and girls is "Propaganda".

Whoa nelly! Calm down! Take a valium! (or better yet, go natural and smoke a joint instead) Just because I advocate the use of marijuana and it's derivatives, doesn't mean I'm an addict! Doesn't even mean I'm a user. you pompous ass! I don't need to read what the government propagates as truth just because they call it a documented study and post it for all to read. I live in the real world. I am out and about real everyday people. I also know that "addicts" when desperate for help will say what the Doctors want to hear. They work the system until they feel better, then most will go right back out there and start all over again. THAT'S why it's a big deal making arrests of people who have a little marijuana or hash in their possession. It cost the taxpayers money while making the pharmaceutical industry and the government rich. It's a vicious cycle. And people who can't think for themselves, like you, feed into it!

I'll tell you what your insults with four letter words is all you have. I do not like four letter words like the A$$. If you were in front of me you would not say it. I can guarantee it. So instead of that. I block. So you can not drag this conversation any lower in the gutter than you already have.
I do not tolerate trash mouths in person. I will not tolerate trash mouths on the internet. You may think this is your moment. But what it really is is that you are too low brow for decent conversation.

if this is, as you claim, from Narcotics Anonymous you are in violation. Narcotics Anonymous, a non-profit organization, prohibits members from using their name to publicize or attract attention to their organization, their teachings, or their publications in the public sector. Anonimity is very key feature of Narcotics Anonymous. You have just violated their most important rule by publishing this with their name on a public forum. There is also the infringement of copyright laws since this came from a published source. You have destroyed any shred of credibility you may have thought you had and given the impression that members of Narcotics Anonymous preach to people like some Born Again Christians, which they do not. You have harmed not only the Narcotics Anonymous Name but also harmed and turned off innocent people with your hysterical rantings. Shame on you.

It can be, think of all of the people who actually present a danger to society.

But for some odd reason pot is a priority for the police. Yes, arrest a few harmless potheads instead of people who kill, rape, burglarize, and attack... great idea. The war on drugs has got to go!

Of course, any arrest is "a big deal." Arrests lead to charges which then have the possibility of constituting a conviction. After that, careers are foiled and futures are compromised. Yes. It is a big deal.

I don't think so. Granted that the person using the substance didn't obtain it illegally, it shouldn't matter.
