Fiona Apple has been a bad, bad girl. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, 35, was arrested for hashish possession at a West Texas Border Patrol checkpoint, according to the Associated Press.

Apple "had a little tiny amount of pot and hash," sheriff's office spokesman Rusty Fleming told the AP, explaining that she spent Wednesday night in jail and was released Thursday after posting bail.

Police found about four grams of marijuana and about four grams of a substance that tested positive for hashish on the singer's tour bus, and she admitted the drugs were hers, the sheriff's office said in a press release.

Marijuana possession in small amounts is a misdemeanor, but the Texas Controlled Substance Act says possession of hashish -- a drug prepared with the resin of the marijuana plant -- in any quantity is a felony, according to the AP. Do you think being arrested for pot -- or hash -- is a big deal? Or is it all a big deal over nothing?

That's such idiotic nonsense. Honestly, decriminalize it now if you don't want to legalize it. People shouldn't have a criminal record for smoking a damn plant. Harms no one whatsoever and is none of the government's business.

I can understand the control of marijuana for the purpose of the safety of the general public if one were to be under the influence of marijuana while driving a motor vehicle or operating heavy machinery, etc...However, alcohol is not controlled, yet people drive drunk and kill innocent bystanders every day. With that being said, I think there are worse drugs that need to be controlled more heavily than marijuana, and the hefty charges for small amounts of marijuana for personal use without intentions to make profit is a bit ridiculous. Evidently, miss Apple was not trying to make profit from what she was smoking, and whoever sold her the marijuana should be the one arrested. After all, the purpose of controlling a substance is so the government doesn't miss out on the profit that they so feel they are owed...You'd think they were the ones who created this world and were the ones who planted Marijuana in it's soil.

Against miss Apple's defense, I don't think it was wise to travel through a check point, especially so close to Mexico, in a tour bus with any kind of drug on board...I would think you're almost always subjected to be searched by boarder patrol when you're traveling in something that can illegally transport immigrants throughout the United States. As stupid as laws can be, you must think smarter than the authority if you don't want to be caught.

I would like to say "No" but it does depend where your busted and how much your busted with and what the exact charges are. SO yes it is a very big deal and we can thank our controlling federal government who continue to spread lies and misinformation about the herb and just so that they can continue to make money from the government, taxpayers and money off the innocent people who choose to partake in the use of marijuana and are forced to have to take illegal actions in order to enjoy it! That's your government at its finest. Control the People and control the world!

It should be treated like any other drug that causes sedation, or can impair judgement, as is alcohol. Driving while under influence can result in accidents as indicated by Nam Era Vet #1 God Bless's comment. We may not hear about the cannabis related injuries or deaths because, a victim had alcohol in system, or some other suppressant that dulled response time in one's ability to think, and then react. The fact that cannabis is a common drug found in accident victims is a red flag. Especially if there is enough evidence collected via data from accident reports and/or hospitals. If legalized for medicinal and relaxation use, it definately should be regulated like any other drug that impairs thinking.

The reason its so common is because so many people do do it and also it stays in your system for two to four weeks. So that is a bull Sheet claim that your repeating thanks to the lies you've been told from the Federal government and DEA who stand to lose millions and millions of dollars if it were legal

then I guess all those alcohol related accidents are false too????? All mind altering drugs that influence the BRAIN via reaction time and judgement in operating a vehicle, should be treated the same as alcohol. Get real! I'm an advocate for legalizing it for medical reasons!

Whose talking about alcohol. Your comparing apples to oranges. And as far as your original statement, " no". I don't believe them or their so called autopsy or blood tests. As I stated, unlike alcohol which leaves the blood stream within 12 -18 hours. THC will stay in the body for 2-4 weeks depending on the usuage and amount of fat in the body.
  • nerak611 lisa 2012/09/26 19:46:34
    nerak611
You just contradicted yourself. THC stays in your body 2-4 weeks. If autopsies are done after deaths from accidents, and a common factor, (denominator) is pot, and they don't find alcohol in your system, but find pot, what else would you conclude? I am not saying don't legalize it, but get real, if it is a big enough factor in accidents, it should be treated like alcohol and pain medications. I smoke cigarettes, but I smoke outside. Why? Because of second hand smoke. I believe that if my choice to smoke a cigarette cause possible harm to others, I have no right to expose them to danger as a result of my choices. Pot stays in one's system, but, there should be a way to measure approximate levels or times it is actively effecting the brain and go by that. No one has the right to expose others to unnecessary harm.

I'm not saying that it doesn;t bear responsibility when you choose to smoke, drink or self medicate. But I am saying that don't try to catergorize it with the same effects as alcohol or medication for that matter. "Yes" most people who choose to smoke, drink and medicate themsleves do so responsibily but there are many who have addictive personalities and cannot control themselves. Take for instance your smoking, so because you do it outside you feel that its ok. That your being responsible. But your not thinking about the people who have to also come outside and be subjected to your second-hand smoke. Or the people who have to walk past you after you've come back inside and smell it because its all over your clothes and hair. It is your choice to choose to smoke. Just as it should be every Americans choice to decide if they would like to smoke pot and whether they will do it responsibly or not. But my point is...Don't make them have to resort to criminal activity to do something that they choose to do.

I never said make it criminal. I said because it is a mind altering drug, it should be treated that way, as are alcohol and pain medications. If you get pulled over driving for swerving or bumping into another to car, they will test for drugs and alcohol. Pain medications are legal as long as you have a.prescribed physician, and in your name. Alcohol is legal, as long as you are 21. If you are over the limit, they arrest you with an oui. If you have pain meds in you'd system, they arrest you and I barge you with an oui. They will.do the same if they find any pot in your system. Operating under influence. But I doubt there's a way to determine what level of high one might be, if smoked any 4-6 hours ago, or 10 minutes ago. I.guess its.a mute point because in a sense it already is that way. You can get oui's.for.ir on system. I am.for making it legal for medicinal.purposes.

Getting arrested for anything is a big deal. Do I agree HELL NO. What a waste of time and money and for what? Something that is less harmful than alcohol. This law needs to be chainged but never will cause there is to much political and medical money tied to it. The crime itself has ruined more lives than the pot

The "big deals" to me are those are murderers, rapists, and the like. Too many people are in jail for having a plant on them. Sure, if you're operating vehicles while stoned out of your mind and cause an accident, you should be charged, just like you would be if you had been drinking alcoholic substances. But really, getting arrested for just possessing it is stupid.
