Fantasy Football Dilemma! Whom do I start at quarterback on my fantasy football team this weekend? Philip Rivers or Cam Newton? Both quarterbacks face easy teams and could get me lots of points. I know many of you out there don't care about football or football fantasy leagues, but you should! More people watch NFL than any other television program -- even Oprah. ESPN NFL has a 9.7 Household rating in 2010 compared to Oprah's 5.7 or Two and a Half Men 6.1.
Philip Rivers ranks among the top two or three NFL quarterbacks -- especially with Petyon Manning watching from the sidelines with his neck injury. Philip Rivers plays for the San Diego Chargers and amassed more passing yards than any other quarterback in the 2010 season. Rivers threw the pigskin for 4,710 yards in 2010 and nearly 13,000 yards the past three seasons combined.
Philip Rivers has thrown 713 yards and four touchdown passes in 2011. He allowed four sacks, threw four interceptions and fumbled once. Rivers has decent numbers considering he faced good opponents -- Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots. On a side note: Rivers looked like the rookie when QB Tom Brady marched the Patriots up/down the field in Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA.
Philip Rivers faces the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have a 0-2 record and allowed more touchdown passes (8 TD) than any other defense. The Chiefs have sacked the opposing quarterback only once this year -- the worst in the league. They have the 20th best passing defense in yards, allowing 261 yards per game in the air. Philp Rivers has averaged 20 fantasy points per game.
Cam Newton and his Carolina Panthers face an easy pass defense this weekend and also threw four picks, but the similarities end there. Cam Newton has only played two games in the NFL. The #1 draft pick out of Auburn has thrown for more than 400 yards in each of his first games -- a feat no other rookie in NFL has accomplished. Cam Newton has thrown for 854 yards, three touchdown passes, got sacked eight times and hasn't fumbled the ball. Newton also rushed for 71 yards and two touchdowns. Rookie Cam Newton has over 30 fantasy points per game.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have allowed 215 passing yards per game ranking them at 14th spot. The Jags allows four TD passes and intercepted the ball three times. The opponents only threw the ball 58 times against the Jaguars.
Help me out... what to do? Put in the veteran Philip Rivers against a softer KC Chiefs? Or bench the stable Rivers and start the rookie sensation Cam Newton? My son wants to start Cam Newton -- so maybe that factor will override anything else. After all, I don't want to pick Rivers and have Cam Newton outscore him again.

Actually, if I had gone with Newton instead of Vick this past weekend, I would have won this week. Newton looks like the real deal.
Just kidding. I like watching the NFL, and Fantasy Football makes it far more interesting.
I learn far more about the players, the "drama" behind the scenes, etc...
He'd definitely want the Redskins to win, even if it meant that an opposing player who was on his fantasy team didn't have a good game.
Rivers - the Chiefs sucking big time right now but its an AFC West Division game, all stats and records have to be thrown out the window. this will not be a game, it will be a fight like all AFC West Division games.
