Easily the biggest bit of rumored news today finds a slew of actors circling the upcoming Robocop remake. Joel Kinnaman has already been locked down to play the title role and now MGM is looking to fill out the rest of the cast.

According to The Tracking Board, Edward Norton is circling to play the brilliant mastermind who brings Robocop to life, Norton. Also circling roles are Gael Garcia Bernal and Rebecca Hall
in supporting roles. Bernal would be cast as Jack Lewis, Alex's
handsome police partner who begins a relationship with Hall's character,
Clara, Alex's former wife before he was transformed into Robocop.

There's also strong interest in Sean Penn to play the role of right-wing news reporter, Novack.

Up until now, the prospects of remaking the classic crime drama have
been pretty uncompelling. If it's true that these actors are indeed
eyeing the aforementioned roles, MGM's remake could be getting a
significant boost in appeal.

It would be awesome. But I left the last Robocop depressed because of his alienation from his family. Tell me if I am wrong and that was not a good impression.

Some movies genuinely need to be remade simply because the originals were so damned awful, but Robocop is a classic that does not need to be f*cked with in any way or form.

I am absolutely livid about this and many other reminders of the film industry's increasing lack of imagination. The universe is vast and plentiful, yet some studios are just too lazy to brainstorm for new ideas. Plenty of low-budget movies have proven that a good idea can be found while - elsewhere - execs with their millions of dollars either go for the same-old formulaic sh*t ( rom-com, homo-erotic fight movie, revenge/car-chase/shoot'em-up etc ) or they hide their talentless fat arses behind a movie that already made a name for itself.
