Forbes has released a list of the most overpaid actors in Hollywood, calculated by comparing the amount the actors were paid for their last three roles with the average return on the investment for the studio. Heading up the list is Eddie Murphy, whose last three films – “Tower Heist,” “A Thousand Words,” and “Imagine That” – were all giant flops, tops the list with a measly $2.30 return on every dollar.

Second is Katherine Heigl, who became very expensive following a string of hits like “Knocked Up,” but has failed to score even a modest hit ever since, with “One for the Money” actually failing to make back its budget.

Finishing off the top five is Reese Witherspoon, Sandra Bullock and Jack Black, with high-profile flops including “How Do You Know,” “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” and “The Big Year.” Do you think Eddie Murphy’s career is over?

Hence, still not a good role since the 80's.

Eddie is a comic genius! He's not picked the best roles lately but, I liked "A Thousand Words" it wasn't Beverly Hills Cop by any means but it wasn't awful either. He'll work as long as HE wants too so, No, his career isn't "over".

Wether his overpaid or not is like beauty in the eyes of the beholder, I like his movies but I'm not a fan of his, there are better actors than him, but if you ask a fan of his he/she would say "NO", but then again, he's worked hard and honest to get where he's at, I'll give him that. At least he has done any dumb moves like wesley Snipes did by trying to trick the IRS , that was definitely stupid, having more than enough to pay his share of taxes..
But I don't believe his career is over , he has a lot of talent.

Eddie's best days are way behind him.
Some of his work is stale. Most people are no longer enamored with the "negro-in-white-land" bit. We're way past that as a nation.
    But over?
I think not. Eddie can still perform some great work if he's hungry enough.

I think eddie murphy is horrible, hes not funny anymore, he does this crazy rant in every movie now, its like buddy love unmasked in every movie. they are all the same, he was best at 48 hours, beverly hills cop. If he decides to cool the buddy love crap he;ll make it back.

No he is a damn good actor, no matter how much he is paid he deserves it, he's a legend, get rid of those dumb ass actors like Will Ferrell who aren't funny. Eddie Murphy can play all kinds of parts so he deserves his pay

As long as he is working and people are interested, his career isn't over.

Being overpaid really isn't related to the end of a career.

As long as he is working, he is not out. He has had such a long rewarding career, if he were to retire any time soon that's cool too.

I'm sure his career isn't over, but the last thing I saw him in, he seemed very different and not the usual jovial personality he has been since SNL.

Not over, just in a downward spiral...
(Prove me wrong, Eddie... the last thing you did that was half decent was Tower Heist - but you weren't the only star in the movie... I'd try more of that)

He began as a foul-mouthed comic then became a decent actor and is now doing lots of voice animations. His career isn't over; it's just changing with time. Given is outgoing personality and talent, he'll be doing well for some time to come.

Murphy started out on the wrong foot . . . He went in the wrong direction . . . Much of his original verbalizing filth and garbage via a disgusting stream of vulgarity drew a limited crowd; but that was all he had . . . Once it was time to move-on, he had no place to go . . . In all of my entire life, I could not find any humor in anything that I ever heard him say . . .
