Forbes has released a list of the most overpaid actors in Hollywood, calculated by comparing the amount the actors were paid for their last three roles with the average return on the investment for the studio. Heading up the list is Eddie Murphy, whose last three films – “Tower Heist,” “A Thousand Words,” and “Imagine That” – were all giant flops, tops the list with a measly $2.30 return on every dollar.

Second is Katherine Heigl, who became very expensive following a string of hits like “Knocked Up,” but has failed to score even a modest hit ever since, with “One for the Money” actually failing to make back its budget.

Finishing off the top five is Reese Witherspoon, Sandra Bullock and Jack Black, with high-profile flops including “How Do You Know,” “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” and “The Big Year.” Do you think Eddie Murphy’s career is over?

He needs to do movies where there are several other good actors. I think he could last as a supporting actor instead of a lead actor.

If there appears to be a stall in his career, perhaps Eddie and Sylvester can switch roles and Sly can do Bevery Hills Cop and Eddie can become the new Rocky or Rambo. Perhaps Schwartzeneggar can do Beverly Hills Cop and Eddie can lead in Kindergarden Cop II. Only suggestions! After all, Hollywood is doing so many remakes, a good shakeup might be good! Certainly, they can't be much worse!

There is a plethora of other "actors" who bomb with every footstep and they still go on. Spelling come to mind?

His career is not over, but probably close to it. Most actors forget what their passion is and start thinking that they are actually important people because of the money. Acting is not hard. It is for entertainment. The entertainment of the public. They soon despise the public. Anyhow, if he were to go back to his love of comedy he soon will be good again and perhaps entertaining. Very few actors today can come Shakespearian actors. Very few. Also, not ALL comedyis created equal. Not all of his comedies can equal the first Beverly Hills Cop and Trading Places.

He's on the rebound. Tower Heist was great. Not to mention that I'm not sure I would call it a "giant flop" considering it made double its budget...

Eddie is funny, so they'll keep putting him in movies.
A few will be big hits and overshadow the many duds.

He's lost his edge completely. He needs a remodel like Travolta got from Tarrantino.
But overpaid and grossly over-rated AWFUL pile of **** award HAS to go to Nicole Kidman. When I heard she'd demanded changes to The Northern Lights, better known in the states as "The Golden Compass" because it sneered at religion and the catholic church in particular, (which was the whole point of the book) and it resulted in the film crashing and burning, I wasn't in the least surprised. What i AM surp[rised about is how she keeps getting work. She's a JONAH. Movies lose money BECAUSE she's in them. Sometimes rescued by her co-stars like Hugh Jackman. (the complete opposite of the obnoxious Kidman)
Eddie Murphy is wonderman in comparison.

There is no such thing as being overpaid. If someone is willing to give you the money you must be doing something right.

He is still Eddie Murphy. What he needs is some guidance to pick the right projects. I liked Tower Heist, but he needs more.

What career? He made a few pretty good movies, his best probably "Trading Places" where he played a street husler that got made a big shot of a broakage house as a bet to see if he could be converted.

Eddie got rich and forgot what funny was. He hasn't been funny for years... I doubt he will ever get his appeal or his groove back.

The man can make me laugh w/o vulgar stuff etc. He is still a winner. However, the cost of movies, even matinees (sp?) is sky high and the refreshment even more so. As a senior I get a 50 cents discount off the adult ticket. It cost my spouse and myself $37 yesterday afternoon to see a movie, 1 med popcorn, soda, which we shared, hotdog for him, nachos for me. A lot of food but it was lunch plus refreshments. For $37 we could have eaten a nice lunch at Applebees or Longhorn, and come home to read or watch a dvd. I'm just saying... it's not Eddie!

Flops or not, I still enjoy many of his movies. In fact, a favorite of mine is one of his so-called "flops" entitled "A Distinguished Gentleman".

His stand-up routines were horrible though. How far can you milk laughter with the "F" word? Com to think of it..., How dumb do you have to be to think it's funny every time you hear it?

Most of his movies are independent films. He does a significant amount of work. Therefore, he should be paid accordingly. It's not like people just hand him dollars...then again, yes we do, lol! His movies are pretty good, actually.

What? Too much money for a black man? He obviously brings the dough....if he couldn't he wouldn't be on the list!
It'd be nice if money from films was more evenly distributed amongst those who made the film though.

What kind of idiot researched this BS for Forbes? Murphy practically carried the movie industry with Beverly Hills Cop, Trading Places, and how about 'Donkey"? Shrek characters are an industry all by itself.

Yeah right... a role you never see him in. What "acting" ability Murphy has. Not! Most of his movies he's just vulgar, loud and oh... not funny. No thinking required. The movie I liked him best in did require some acting, Trading Places, and he had a great back up cast of supporting actors to carry him.

The fact is, there many over the hill in the Hollywood crowd that don't know it is time to hang it up. About the only guy still around that can act and his pushing 80 in Eastwood. One that should hang it up is Sly. No more rocky or Rambo, PLEASE, its embarrassing. Another guy, sad to say because I like him is Arnold. He stumbed through his last action flick and did minor bits only.

You may not think voice over counts as acting, but you could not be more wrong. Millions of children and adults love the Shrek films. The commercial success of the movies is what counts in this particular topic.

It was over after Beverly Hills cop. I can't think of a good movie he was in after that.

    Personal preference though.
