They had 3rd String out, if you watched the game, they made a 3 every possession. 72% field goals. Anthony made 10/12 on 3s to break the record, played 12 mins. The coach took him out then. No fast breaks in the 2nd half. I mean the team couldn't shoot that will wide open in practice. The Best game a team has ever had in the history of the sport. 50 points in the 1st Quarter!!! I mean, what can a team do, shoot at the wrong basket??? How bout put the fab 5 of women gymnastics come in and play? or have Nigeria have 10 players on court?

I thought that the Olympics were not supposed to be a professional sports venue.
I do not think that any multimillionaire basketball players should be in the Olympics.

It is supposed to be amateurs. The US finally argued that since the Soviets, Chinese, Japanese and others grabbed these kids at age 2 and trained them for their whole lives in that one sport just for the Olympics it was the same as being Pro because they were paid to be trained in a sense. So instead of nailing them.. they messed with the definition of a Pro.

Besides when the Olympics first started there was hardly any "pros".

The Olympics is for the best athletes in the world to compete and represent their country. Other countries are putting up their best. Why can't we?

my only point was it used to be for the best Amateur Athletes... the pros have their world ...no country should be sending people who are pros.... the year they allowed pros the olypics became a less honorable event.... some of our greatest sports heroes were amatuers

That's because they were long shots. That Russian team we beat in hockey... they were pros. Makes for a great movie but doesn't justify our amateurs getting pounded by other countries pros.

That's an Obama answer... if we can't stop the cheaters we will make cheating legal...

Those kids in 1980 proved they were better and stronger athletes against the odds.. That is the original olympic spirit....
Mom always asked" Just becauseiJimmy jumps of the roof does that mean you should too?"
The Pro-lympic commitee took the cowards way out..they have no honor... ..

What the hell are you talking about? Liberal? LMAO! Insinuating that we should keep the world's greatest athletes on the sidelines during a competition for the world's greatest athletes just to keep it fair is more like Obama. You know, "even the playing field". This isn't about jumping off the roof to fit in. This is about incredibly competitive, gifted athletes representing their respective countries in sports they love to compete in. Every Olympian in every competition from every country competing is the best at what they do. In other words, they're "pros". Basketball just happens to be a lot more popular than an event like archery or high diving. So with your... untwisted logic, should we only send hobby bow hunters and recreational swimmers to compete in archery and high diving? Simply competing isn't cheating. Demanding that the competition isn't better than you is cheating. Basketball is an American sport. It's okay if we win at it most of the time.

Obviously you are totally ignorant when it comes to the honor and heritage of the games which were established to celebrate the finest amatuer athletes in their purist love of their sports...
The introduction of professionals was a violation of the intent of the games as they were set forth ,

From what you seem to support, we should let the NBA , NFL and MLB compete in the high shool leagues. because those whining children would be wrong to argue. Demanding that the competition isn't better than you is cheating..

No. I'm not supporting the idea that other countries only have high school talent level athletes to offer compared to our superhuman athletes. That's incredibly arrogant of you. And I'm sure those other countries would be offended by your entire argument. I am saying that the games have evolved and every country offers professionals. I'm not the one complaining here, sir. You are. I don't care about the corrupt, AAU governed "heritage" you seem to hold so near and dear. And I don't think the majority of athletes around the world care either. Everyone with the "purist love" of their sport wants to compete on a global stage. Allowing them a competitive opportunity is as honest as it gets. That shouldn't only apply to coal miners who are amateur skeet shooters in their spare time. And it covers a very broad range of events. Some are more popular and lucrative (basketball) than others. Get over it.

I just do not believe they should have change the rules rather than enforce the rules as originally provided.

There is no such thing as running up a score. You play until time runs out or the other time forfeits.

Way to leave out all the facts. Here's a quote from Mike Krzyzewski:

"We didn't play LeBron [James] and Kobe [Bryant] in the second half, and with Carmelo shooting like that, we benched him," Krzyzewski said. "We didn't take any fast breaks in the fourth quarter, and we played all zone. You have to take a shot every 24 seconds, and the shots we took happened to be hit."

Aside from who they played and benched he makes a good general point about the game. You have to take a shot within 24 seconds of every possession. And if you go out there and just take your possession and intentionally hand the ball back to them all the time that gets insulting. Theres no mercy rule to stop the game. They just happened to hit all their shots.

I really want to know, what would you have them do to not be shameful? Forfeit? Protest playing a weaker opponent? I really know what you would have them do? They sat their significant players in the second half and the way the game works when its your possession you need to take a shot. Even when they resorted to subs and slowed down the game they hit their shots.
