Donna Summer Dies at 63: What's Your Favorite Song by Her?

The world lost another award-winning pop star. This time, it was the Queen of Disco. Donna Summer, best known for dance floor singles like "Hot Stuff," "Last Dance," and "She Works Hard for the Money," passed away at the age of 63 on Thursday morning.


Cause of death is unconfirmed at this time, but sources close to her reveal that she had been struggling with breast cancer. Summer first came to prominence in 1975 with the first-ever extended for disco track, "Love to Love You Baby." Between 1976 and 1979, she released seven more albums, containing several iconic disco tracks, like "I Feel Love" and "MacArthur Park."

She also received an Academy Award for her 1978 song "Last Dance," off the soundtrack of "Thank God It's Friday." Summer went on to release more than 15 studio albums, winning her five Grammys and spawning countless chart-topping singles. What's your favorite song from Donna Summer?

    Her passing marks the end of an era - The Queen Of Disco was no diva - just phenomenally good! My favorite Donna Summer sound was a track taken from the movie soundtrack 'The Deep' written by John Barry and Donna Summer called 'Down Deep Inside' - A wonderful musical collaboration. With Donna, what you saw was what you got - Style, grace, sophistication, an effortless, subliminal talent - a true gift, that remarkable voice. She was an exquisite blessing from God.

    I sorry to say, that I was not a fan of 'Donna Summer' as a matter of fact I had not heard of her until this comment screen came upon the screen, I am always sorry to hear of a screen/music icon passing!. The song I chose was something that I heard back in the 70s.

    you are right. You really cannot pick one song. That would be like choosing Sinatras best song..It's the voice and the personality and the song that count.

    I LOVE her music. She was such a wonderful person and beautiful woman. I always think Rick James tried to steal her look. Just something about him made me think that. Look at her then look at him. Right? Thank gawd she gave us her music when we needed it the most! xo

    "on the radio" was a very close 2nd. But when I was in high school we'd go to dances and the last song of the night was "Last Dance". Brings back a lot of sweaty memories. lol

    They were all good and lively recordings tho. I thought she did herself a disservice when she sang duet with Streisand, the contrast was not complimentary. I am sorry she is gone so young. S.

    I liked all but MacArthur Park. Professor Dumbledore did it best!
    She could sing with absolutely great voice and it just wasn't for disco! Whitney Houston had nothing on Donna. Donna sang right from the heart, listen to her voice.
