If there's something that Donald Trump loves more than having billions and billions of dollars, it's suing people. He's been threatening to sue rapper Mac Miller for using his name in a song title, and now Trump is suing Bill Maher -- because the HBO host compared him to a monkey. Seriously. In a call to "Fox and Friends," Trump announced that he's suing Maher for $5 million as a result of his "Tonight Show" appearance. He had been mocking Trump's offer to give $5 million to charity if President Obama released his college paperwork, when he joked that he must be "the spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan" and said he'd donate $ 5million himself if Trump could prove he wasn't.

Trump claims that he presented Maher with his birth certificate -- apparently revealing that he isn't descended from monkeys -- and is now suing Maher, who has yet to pay up, for "breach of contract. "

When it was suggested that Maher was kidding, Trump said "He said it with venom. I don’t think it was a joke." Maher's publicist hasn't responded, but he has tweeted from his personal account, saying simply "What?? Really? Hahahahahahahahahahahaha." So, whose side are you on: Bill Maher's or Donald Trump's?

Trump is officially an idiot. I really want to see this go to court. the funny thing is that he didn't sue for libel because he knew that if he did he was opening himself up for being sued by any American for all the crap that he has said in the past 5 yrs. Honestly, I want to see the long form birth certificate. And also he is an idiot because the 5 mil was not to go to Trump (according to the joke he is now stating is a binding contract) it was supposed to go to the hair club for men.

Both of them are blowhards and tend to look like cartoon characters, but Maher is the worse, since his TV show is nothing more than a platform for putting people down.
Maher has no respect for anyone, including himself. He failed as a stand up comedian, but does a bit better as a political jokester, even though he has never had an original thought in his head. Lets face it. Trump knows how to make money using his brain, but since Maher doesn't have as much brain power, he has to resort to using his poison tongue, and his weird looking face which looks something like the cartoon character, Dagwood Bumsted. My apologies Dagwood..:)

You may not agree with his views but for someone to say that "he has to resort to using his poison tongue, and his weird looking face" as your reason that he isn't smart... well I have a feeling that you didn't think on that for very long did you.

I don't know about Trump's bankruptcy or who he sues, because it's none of my business, but, if you don't think Maher loves hearing the sound of his own voice you aren't listening.
I believe Trump has at least some morals, and everybody knows how immoral and how low Maher is.

On what legal grounds do you think that Maher will have to pay Trump money? Honestly. And anyway if we learn anything from this, its that Trump (who bitched and moaned about the short form birth certificate would have provided the actual birth certificate... but he gave the short form that had a bar code on it) is hiding something.

You guys CAN'T be serious.

I can't stand either of these guys, but Bill Maher is obviously in the right here in a legal sense: Making a joke does not constitute a legally binding contract, and saying Trump is an orangutan's love child does not constitute slander. Slander has to be serious, plausible character defamation that causes damage to a person because of other people actually believing it.

Michael S... You seem to be missing the point. Trump is not suing Maher for slander. He is suing him for reneging on the $5 Million wager they made. Which ever one of them who lost the bet would give $5 Million to the charity of the others choice. And being the cheapskate Maher is he refused to pay up. If Maher had won the bet he would have been hammering Trump every night on his show for him to pay up.

I doubt the charity which would benefit from the bet thinks this is something other than a "real" case. The bet had nothing to do with anybody's birth certificate. This is probably the only way that Cheapass Maher would ever donate to any charity. Maher is a nasty little man who makes his living by pulling other people down to his level..

Donald Trump deserves to win this one . Maher went on television and accused Trump of being the prodigy of an Orangatang . So BM publicly slanders him and promises his America if they can prove otherwise , he will donate 5 million to charity. Donald Trump took him his "proof " in the form of his birth certificate . Slander can be a hard thing to prove. Do you think Donald Trump can prove in court that the accusation is false? Sure hope so. Just imagine, people believing that Donald was raised by orangatangs! And just on Bill Maher's say so too. Must be terrible for Donald Trump having to take the man to court to set the record straight after such slander. I hope he proves beyond all doubt in the public's mind that he was not fathered by an orangatang. He was not really fathered by an orangatang, right?
