Yes, if I am upset I sing my prayers to my Lord and it makes me feel sooo good. I love other music too. We had a horse was a little wild or maybe I should have said scared and I used to sing to him and he would calm down...all I can say is it kept me in the saddle...ha ha
Music DOES calm the 'SAVAGE' beast (not necessarily the 'average' beast), but not in every instance, just like sodium pennathol doesn't work on everyone as a truth serum, either.
music certainly calms me, there's nothing more soothing than listening to the Carpenters or Rumer or some classical music to relax & chill or the Sex Pistols, the Jam, Motorhead or something like that to wake me up & get me buzzing, or Abba, Kirsty Mac Coll, or the Beatles to sing along (badly) to, or some Mostly Autumn, Dire Straits, Gary Moore to play air guitar to.......
In 1695, "breast" meant the front of the body from the neck to the stomach on both males and females. Frequently it was used when conveying strong emotion. There is no "slip".
Sinatra, Sarah Vaughn, Charlie Parker, Bobby Darin, Nancy Wilson (jazz), Johnny Hartman, John Coltrane, George Jones, Arthur Prysock, Patsy Cline, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Teddy Pendergrass, Anita O'Day.
Hello English major. Can you explain why there are so many people posting on this site that do silly things like interchanging 'then' and 'than' at every opportunity, misspelling words left and right, etc.? Is it lack of education or just lack of precision? I was constantly given demerits for this type of thing in school and I would have been expelled if I used 'then' in place of 'than'. I 'gradiated' in '72 so I'm 'kickin' 60's rear myself.
Sinatra was the greatest. My all time favorite. (I'm listening to him, "Drinking Again," as I type this. Most folks that dislike him don't like his persona, but thye don't argue the merits of his talents. Why don't you give him another try?
Yanni reminds me of my past, Enya is a part of the time when I was pregnant with my children and the Moody Blues is timeless and gets me through all kinds of days. In addition, I like Air, Moby, Goldfrapp and a handful of others when I'm stressed. I have seen it help children with insomnia, a husband with schizophrenia and even our dogs behave better when we leave music on vs. when we leave nothing on. And movies apparently don't count for them. They like music.
I haven't paid attention, is Enya still going strong? I loved Orinoco Flow. Moody Blues - amazing. Music is wonderful. i go as far back as Brenda Lee & the Everly Brothers; my female and male singing idols.
She had new albums in 2000 (A Day Without Rain), 2005 (Amarantine), and 2008 (And Winter Came). A Day Without Rain was spectacular. I haven't heard the next two yet, but I plan to rectify that immediately since I own them and haven't sat down to listen to them yet. :P
Just a point that may be interesting, my punishment for annoying my older sister (when I invaded her dates) was for her to turn on the record player and play 'Wake Up Little Susie' about 30 times. She didn't even have the record, she had played it so often that the needle embedded the song into the turntable and the vinyl melted away. In the 60's I was fond of the Monkees, The Raiders, The Byrds, The Yardbirds, The Royal Guardsmen, Prolco Harum, Ricky Nelson, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Jefferson Airplane, many of the 'one hit wonder' groups, and the like. In the 70's it was Yes, Moody Blues, Youngbloods, etc.
*eye roll, sigh*
Yeah, yeah, I'm old. You got a problem with that?
I'm sorry, but the only ones I liked of those you mentioned were Bobby Darin and George Jones. Yep, you just met someone who couldn't stand Sinatra!
(Last I was seen, I was running for cover.)
