On Saturday night in Birmingham, England, middleweights Mark Munoz and Chris Leben slugged it out for two straight rounds inside the Ultimate Fighting Championship octagon at UFC 138. In the end, it was Munoz who raised his hand after defeating Leben via Technical Knockout (doctor's stoppage - Leben could not see out of his eye at the end of round two).
Even with the earlier-than-expected conclusion, Munoz put on the performance of his career, showing that he was bigger, stronger, faster, and more well-rounded than the tough and well-respected Leben. Munoz (11-2 in MMA) has notched four straight wins in the UFC--over Aaron Simpson, C.B. Dollaway, Demian Maia, and Leben. He nearly defeated previous number one contender Yushin Okami last summer, losing in a razor thin split decision.

With the win over a credible top 10 opponent, Munoz looks to receive a shot at friend, former training partner, and arguably the greatest fighter of all-time, UFC middleweight champion Anderson "The Spider" Silva. Munoz may have to wait behind Chael Sonnen, who pushed Silva to the limit last year and dismantled contender Brian Stann last month with ease. It's safe to say if Munoz keeps winning, especially in impressive fashion, that elusive shot at the gold could come soon enough.

- ☆SPIDERPIECES☆ 2011/11/07 18:38:37No+1Mark Munoz should get the winner of Michael "The Count" Bisping and Jason "Mayhem" Miller and that fight should be for the #1 contender spot.

Doesn't mean he should get a title shot until an actual bout is decided between the two of them. Overall, both fighters looked evenly matched. Not a Leben fan, but give him a realisitc shot and Saturday's fight was not that.reply
- Jimbo 2011/11/07 12:56:37No+1Chael Sonnen nearly beat Silva, he deserves the shot before Munoz. Munoz with another fight should fight that winner. Leben's ground skills leave much to be desired while a vicious striker that missed connecting with Munoz. Munoz appeared to beat him to the punch, with 2 rights after Leben going down opening up the cut that finished Leben throwing in the towel not coming out for the third round. Okami while good IMO would lose to Sonnen or Silva.reply

munoz got his ass beat by chris weidman he doesnt deserve anything. i always thought mark munoz was a bit overrated idk what made people think he was a top contender he hasnt beaten anybody relevant to make you think so. but the middleweight division all together is very weak i mean the fact that they entertained the idea of mayhem miller and jake shields fighting anderson silva is really saying something. if i were anderson i would cut down to welterweight or move up to light heavyweight for more challenge. i think guys like phil davis and jon jones would be good fights at LHW and nick diaz and of course georges st. pierre would be good for him at welterweight... he's gotta be getting bored dominating middleweights.reply
